Hello everyone. I just played my first PRS. It was a se custom 24. I feel in love with it! Now I want one. I am hoping to be able to go to guitar center and trad in 2 guitars and not have to put a lot of money into it. I was wondering if there is a big difference between the custom and the standard? If they are the same guitar except for hardware. I'm not sure which one to go for? Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks.

The standard is all mahogany. The custom has a maple top and a fancy maple veneer.

What Olivos said. They will sound different. Play both and see what you like. Let us know how it turns out.

They only had the custom in-stock right now. I would even buy a used one. If I get a fair amount for my guitars. I would then be able to get my self some kind of PRS
Just so you don't get too disappointed by GC's offer, they will only pay you about 40% of historical sales value of what ever you are trading in. Its how they make money by spending money. Now, if you have 2 really nice guitars, you may stand a better chance of making a decent down payment with the trade ins. It really all depends on what you have, what they need, and who does the appraisal.

Oh boy. Thanks for the heads up on GC 40% I don't have anything great. I have a 12 string fender acoustic and a EB sterling sub ax3.

Check out Dave's guitars for great prices on used stock from a respectable dealer but not sure where you are or how that'll help you with trade. I'd buy a guitar and sell the ones you have separately on CL or Reverb.

Yeah I live in Pennsylvania. So I don't think that will help. Unfortunately I don't have the money to purchase. That is why I would need to sell or trade. In order to get a PRS.

Sell first and buy later there's plenty of good guitars out there. Never know, price em right and they can move quick. Beating GC trade in isn't tough and sure to grab a quick sale.

Oh no please don't say that! Lol. I can't afford more that one. Thanks for the warning lol. I guess that is one of the reasons I never played one before. Because of the price tag. But when I saw the lower price on the se custom. I grabbed it and fell im love with it.

Sell em yourself man. Look up sold listings, and that will give you a base sale $. That way you can price em aggressively if you want. Don’t get desperate out of being impatient. They’ll sell in no time priced right. Trust me man, you’ll be glad you did. Plus it gives you more time to check out all the PRS choices out there...new and used. There is some phenomenal used models out there, some pretty rare...at used $ too
