New PRS Studio arrived today with a poor setup is this normal?

DO NOT DO THIS !!!!!!!!!!
Never adjust the bridge mounting screws in an attempt to adjust string height (action).
It is okay to adjust the saddle height, as desired.

HOWEVER....

I will bet it's going to be a simple truss rod adjustment...
The neck is most likey too straight and just needs a little relief.
Turn the wrench towards the bass side of the neck 1 quarter turn at a time, retune, inspect. Wash rinse repeat...

Thanks @John Mann ……..I meant the saddle, not the bridge! My bad!

the fact you feel the action is low, but the buzzing is up 5-7 frets indicates a truss rod adjustment (15 degress???) is in order. a non sophisticated check is to hold the guitar so your eye can see down the edge of the neck and look for bow. if the middle looks high -low action buzzing in the middle - then a small loosening of the truss rod should help. It is an easy way to do a logic check of where the buzzing is and why. a couple of years back I was at GC sort of amp shopping, and the fellow said can I get a guitar for you to try. so I pointed at a pretty les paul, and he pulls it down for me and plugs me into a Boss Katana. this was a straight from factory gibson, and the action was so high I could barely play a c chord. If I had a screwdriver in my pocket I could have made it markedly better in about 25seconds. but doubt they would appreciate me taking a screwdriver to a factory new gibson. I was surprised how a factory guitar (of any brand) would be so unplayable at a store who wants to sell guitars. so I guess your story is not too surprising with a factory new guitar no being setup - in the ball park. good luck, sounds like a really nice guitar. by the way, if you like the low action in general, and or the gun site view is not giving evidence of an obvious back bow, but you just have some bad actors (strings) the saddles with their individual height screws might enable you to fine tune the - say d or g etc which are buzzing and the rest of the desireable low action remains good. I have a new SE standard 24 and setup has been easy to do between truss rod and saddles. this is a nice machine and getting to a nice low action without headaches is always the sign of a well built guitar. PRS is a well built guitar - even if it does come from Indonesia. Yours sounds like a sweet guitar, but dont be afraid to master setup on your own. and yes you are correct, some prefer a slightly higher than - as low as you can go without buzzing. I happen to be a low action afficionado, you may like a different flavor, good luck L6

and yes, another thought concurring with comments above is the weather. The state of this beautiful wooden instrument is always a function of temperature and humidity, which could be a root cause in your situation. In Minnesota right now is was 12 below zero and the high may only be 4 above. My house is super dry. (tuning can be flat due to shrinking neck) come august, we can hit 90+ with swelter humidity which strangely gets pushed up tornado alley from the Gulf of Mexico. when this weather hits often tuning becomes sharp- guitar absorbs moisture and grows a tiny bit. all guitars react. so your observations could be a function of the weather. there is only so much protection from the weather you can expect from a team of dogs and a dog sled. glad it made it there in good shape! play on!
