Hello everyone!

I’m new to the PRS forum and have just purchased my PRS SE McCarty 594 Double Cut in Black Gold Burst. My first impressions of this guitar are fantastic!
The appearance is absolutely stunning!

The only drawbacks I’ve noticed so far are some minor factory finish imperfections. Additionally, the two veneer pieces on the top don’t seem to align perfectly at their meeting point, particularly near the bottom of the guitar. The veneer finish also doesn’t look exactly like the pictures on the PRS website.

Has anyone else noticed the same issue?
Thanks!

perfect bookmatched tops are rare , most are flitch matched .. the same is true of most concert violins etc..

A Flitch matched set of grain matches two slices from the same log. Depending on how even the log was, this can look very much like bookmatched. Two flitches will come from the same general area of the same log, but may actually be separated by one more more other slices, so they won't match as precisely as bookmatched. You'll often do flitch matching when there's a defect in an slice or two between two flitches.

But bookmatched involves taking a single slice from a log and cutting it down the center and then laying it open like a book, then putting the two together. This is typically reserved for more expensive models regardless of maker.

Finishes can look wildly different depending on the light.

Please see below my PRS! And in the second picture is the point which I previously mentioned. It seems that there is a vertical strip in the merging point of the two veneers.

Hello everyone!
I'm thinking about customizing the top veneer on my PRS. I'm considering adding some inlays below the bridge, similar to the PRS Santana model. I'd really appreciate your thoughts!

in addition to my previous answer: the only „cosmetic“ change for my taste could be:
lampshade buttons in amber coloring. The feel and look could improve, but that‘s up to you.
