Great new product here! Honestly surprised it took this long for them to come out. I love my wood library hard case as much as the next guy, but for those who commonly gig, or travel with their guitar, it offers more protection when traveling to and from, this is perfect. Even as a second case for those "rather be safe than sorry" times (if you can afford both cases) 😉

Great addition PRS team! 👍🏻

I wonder about the weight. I only have one premium gig bag and I use it every time I take one of my PRS guitars out to play because the standard cases are HEAVY and about triple the weight of carrying the guitar. I wonder if these are lighter than the current wood cases.

There was a previous thread about these and they’re a lot lighter than the PRS standard case.

Here are the two other threads on this topic (first one has lots of pictures ;~)):

Here are the links at Sweetwater for these cases:

I know somwhere along the way, I read/viewed/heard about them being significantly lighter than standard PRS cases, but I am not sure where.

EDIT: Alnus beat me to it!

Yeah but you did the leg work ❤️

Bought mine the first week of April and have used it every week to go to band practice and a few gigs. I like it better than the traditional core cases which can get beat up pretty easily. I don’t especially like gig bags. I’m not afraid to throw the new case in the bed of the truck and in the gear trailer. I’m saving up to get another one for my back up axe.

I’m sure they’re fine.

But they ain’t sexy.
I'd define sexy cases as the kind where you don't have to drag 26 pounds of case and guitar through a couple of airports.

Someone said the case is less than half the weight of the wood ones. My wood cases weigh in at around 20 pounds, empty. I'll save the ten or more pounds gladly, thanks.

From a FB post by someone who got their hands on the D2 case earlier this week.

"The molded case thickness is about 6" compared to 4.5" for the standard PRS wood tolex covered case. The molded case weighs 11.5 lbs. compared to about 17 lbs. for the standard case."
The WL and PS traditional cases weigh even more; mine are 19-20 pounds, empty.

Would much rather them come up with a “Thermometer or Chainsaw” style case. I can’t stand the huge rectangular ones.
