hey hey...just traded an SG custom to my best friend for a SC HB II. I love the 57/08's but I'll be taking them out and placing them in another one of my guitars. Any suggestions for a "different" PRS pickup for the guitar? Anyone here ever change the pickups out? I only own one other hollowbody (an ES-339) and it has that classic sound already.

I play everything from brutal metal to smooth and sexy jazz, so any ideas would greatly be appreciated.:top:

well, I really liked the original 5708's that came with my SCHB, but after a while you try to fine tune it, at least I do...lol
I basically play hard rock, grunge and classic rock and I got all that covered with my SCHB. It's my main guitar right now and I replaced the original pick ups with a covered 5909 neck and a covered DGT on the bridge. To my taste and kind of playing it's just perfect. A little more modern then the 5708's. I do have a Tremonti guitar if I need to be nastier.

My SCHB came with SC245 pickups in them and they seemed totally RAWK!! in that guitar.

Really not what I was expecting, so I put 53/10s in it and am really happy with them in that guitar. I also have 57/08s in a Hollowbody that I love.

I was fooling around with pickup height on my 57/08 SC245 over the weekend and was really surprised how much of a difference that made. I've seen that advice here before and should have paid more attention to it!

Just a turn or two of the screwdriver made a pretty noticeable difference between hot and tight, and looser and bluesier. So try raising your 57/08s for rock and lowering 'em for jazz and blues. If it works for you, hey it's easier and cheaper than new pickups!

This sounds like the truth....before you even commented I was thinking of doing just that...they key is finding a covered 59/09. I know tonally they are different animals from their uncovered brethren.

i have Miras in my HBII: ton of grit, decent cleans, ton of balls; very remeniscent of an old-school slutty blues guitar that can square a wave in a tasty manner

If you can't find a 5909 with cover I would suggest you to give the \m/ neck pick up a try. It's not that hot/metal oriented as the name suggest. I have the neck one on my Tremonti and it's pure magic

I was thinking about those \m/ pickups. any idea on how they might blend with that amazing piezo?

it's funny, I never blend them magnetic and piezo pick up. I always use one or the other. I have 2 favorites neck pick ups made by PRS and they are the 5909 and \m/. tried both on my SCHB and they do sound perfect. Never tried the \m/ on the bridge position of the SCHB, but I am pretty sure they would be great. They are not as metal as the name makes you believe.
