Tuesday evening I grabbed a new phone, one which I felt would better blend with some of my work activities. Before switching over I logged out of iMessage/FaceTime on my Apple devices everywhere (only ran it on phone but confirmed no other devices were using it). Even though I am logged out everywhere I am not receiving texts from users trying to reach me with iMessage. I know most of the people I talk to here use it so I thought I would share. I am not ignoring you. <3 I will post again when it's resolved. Working on some potential fixes now.

As of right now iMessage is still holding my number on the side of the initiating message, but is replying to sender the message wasn't received and prompting user to send as text. Doing this will get the text to me as I continue to look for a way to get this fixed. Apple doesn't want to let go. ;)

Some people now reporting they are't required to retry sending iMessage as text that it is sending as text first round.

When I switched from iPhone to Droid the same thing happened to me. I ended up calling Apple's customer support and they took care of it on their end, took about 2 minutes. Haven't had a problem since.

Its a big issue with Apple - so much so that there is a lawsuit pending because of it. They say the issue is fixed with iOS8 but lets be real - its a little ridiculous haha The best solution is changing your Apple ID password (dont log back in) and removing the device tied to your phone number from your device list. That should allow for SMS' to be pushed normally instead of iMessage being prioritized.

Thats my last option at this point.

It's funny because I took every precaution I could think of before the switch. I even did some things that made no sense just in case. While I read on Apple's troubleshooting page they didn't or won't work I did them before hand anyways, like change your passwords and not log back in and remove the device from the account. I've tried some other things and at this point I'll just have to call them...if I keep this phone. I have 14 days and the restocking fee is only $35.

I stick to Android for my phones, but use a MBP.... I don't know if its related, but it sounds like they just transferred the same crummy code for iMessage on OSX to iOS. Ever since I upgraded to 10.9, I haven't been able to get it to work right... by "right" I mean "not at all" :-(

Back to iPhone. Workflow on the other device left me desiring something else.

On a side note the device I was using had a gorgous screen that was 6". You'd think it's big so you'll see better, but I found it was giving me headaches. Trying to focus on that huge screen at phone using distance was mental torture. This was a big surprise and not something I thought about before the switch. It was, as I guessed, impossible to use with one hand.

Anyways, iMessage is a go so contacting me as per normal has resumed.

Thanks!

Wait it out til Sept and get the new iPhone, rumor has it a 4.7 and 5.5" are on the way. 4.7 seems like a good size for mostly 1 handed use. Bigger, but not super obnoxiously huge.

Yeah that's the plan. I have used Macs for a long time now and I just prefer that work flow.

I recently scored a Surface Pro 3 to use as my day job machine. I should note we are a Microsoft Gold Partner and while we are supplied really nice laptops I wanted smaller/lighter and work allows us to BYOC. I am really liking the SP3 for this use. Granted if there was a Macbook Air with a Retina Display (touch screen wouldn't be bad either :)) I would have gotten that instead. So I figured since the Surface was nice I would try a phone. Phone was great, but at the end of the day it was a time commitment to get it working the way I wanted and I don't have the desire.
