Any suggestions on pickup upgrade? I find them flabby. I play a lot of metal, but blues and 80's and classic rock as well. I'm thinking SD JB and Jazz.

Also, I'd like to go with black speed knobs. Are they course or fine spline shafts? Feels like a ***** to get them off!

Welcome aboard.

Pickups are such a subjective thing so I'm no help there but.... Use a looped shoelace or spare piece of wire under the knobs to pull 'em off, and be sure to offer to sell them too. You'll be able to afford any knobs you want with their sale, lampshades are expensive and well sought after.

Great choice.

I actually liked the pickups and knobs on my s2 however I wanted to try EMG JH's out so I through a set in mine. Love them huge and they are very versatile.

I did the JB/Jazz in My S2 Custom. You won't be disappointed.

Definitely surprised about the knobs, most folks around here pay big money to remove the speed knobs and replace them with the lampshades (I did on one of mine). The pickups are very subjective and personal, so that I can understand. I liked but did not love the pickups that came in my S2 Mira, so I replaced them with DiMarzio SD and PAF Pro, but that is a very different guitar so not sure what would be best in yours but hard to go wrong with the JB/Jazz combo.
