New Mac Pro

I have an Intel based Mac at the office, but an older G5 at home that I'm close to updating. My timing and Apple's couldn't be better.

Stoked!

Can't wait for this to come out.

I'm going to replace my 8 core Mac Pro in the studio when it is released (and when the software companies announce compatibility with its new OS, etc). Mine's a 2009, and it's just feeling a touch long in the tooth when working with the latest software.

The new one will be several times as fast, and I've learned (via my partner's experience with a different machine at his studio) that solid state drives are the way to go with large sample libraries, of which I have thousands of gigabytes. The seek and search time reduction alone makes them very worthwhile.

9 inches tall and even more quiet than my very quiet machine? Perfect for a studio. Plus it still has slots for PCIe cards.

Normally when I hear 'Apple' I want to turn away and scream but...

Not only does it look super cool it also looks like a powerful beast.

My recording PC cost a small fortune though and still does everything I need without issues so I'll likely be sticking with that for at least another two to three years.

Looks very cool and will be a fantastic performer, but...no internal expansion room. So that beautiful form will be connected to external drives, etc. via (Thunderbolt) cables. And don't most people with Mac Pros already have them under their desk?

The new one may win design awards, but I actually think the outgoing "cheese grater" design is more functional and practical. IMHO, YMMV, etc.

Can't say I remember reading any dates but I would guess pretty soon. Maybe July?

As Intel isn't even finished with the Thunderbolt 2 design, it's probably not going to be very soon. Apple's only comment has been 'this year'.

Any idea if the price point is staying the same? I'd doubt it's going down since it will be "made in the USA".
