Thanks So Much! I actually did start kinda timid! I did have a few guitars of other makes. I started out with a Santana SE, but thought (at the time) that the fretboard felt too narrow, and to be honest, I really wanted a US guitar!
I returned the SE for a Gibson Les Paul Traditional Pro II in the Merlot Finish. Nice Guitar, but LPs aren't comfortable to play(to me) in an office chair, and I found the sharp bound edges of the the LP's fretboard really annoying!
Then, I bought a Fender American Standard Eric Clapton "Blackie" Stratocaster, which was overall, a much nicer feeling guitar than the LP, although the neck on the Blackie was like a baseball bat!
I went down to the GC in Englewood. CO to check out an S2 Semi-Hollowbody, but it didn't beg me to take it home. It had been played a LOT at the store.
I decided to trade the LP in towards a PRS Semi-Hollow in Aquableux, which was available on Guitar Center's website. Five minutes after leaving the store, I got an email telling me it was backordered. Corporate showed it to be available to
both the store and to the consumer, but the truth was that that model was limited to around 200 copies, and long out of production! So the manager at GC found one, but it was in the Red Tiger finish. I told them to go ahead and get it in from the other store back east.
When it arrived, I thought it was way too dark; you couldn't see the flame from five feet away in normal lighting!
While all this was going on, I found my Aquableux DGT! So this is really my first US PRS...
So, I had GC get me a Hollowbody II, but all they had on hand was a Tortoise Shell, and a Honey, both non 10-Top. The tortoise shell had the same problem as the Red Tiger. The Honey HBII was nice, but after playing it for a couple of weeks I really wanted a 10 top.
The most frustrating thing about buying PRSi is not being able to pick them out in person, unless you're close to a place like Wilcutt Guitars. Lucky for me, Guitar Center does have a 30 day return policy. So I returned the Honey HB II and ordered a
PRS HB II Artist Package with Nickel Hardware, a Brazilian Rosewood fretboard and veneer, finished in Livingston Lemon Drop!
