Hey all, thought I'd stop in and say what's up. I just bough my first PRS (ok, its an SE) last week and have been loving every minute of it. Its been a while since I've played, but have been wanting to get back in to it for a while. I've always wanted a PRS ever since I was a kid. Well I happened to have the money, and went "shopping", which turned more in to walking in to the store and seeing the SE Custom 24 on the wall and almost immediately buying it. It may have taken 22 years, but I'm happy now, lol. I suppose I should learn how to play again now since I've been out of the game for about 8 years, lol. I almost didn't buy it because I found a Peavey Axcelerator F on eBay, but missed the auction, I'm glad I did though, it wasn't blue like I wanted anyway, lol.

I suppose, here's some eye candy.

I think the only thing I want to do right now is find a new nut since I'm already having issues keeping it in tune.

Thanks everyone, ive been pretty stoked since getting it.

Congrats! Nice to see another Madisonian on the PRS forum.

Awesome, not many around on forums i visit frequently.

Welcome to the forum.very nice guitar now stop fooling around and get to practicing.lol

Ive been trying, a couple hours a couple times a day until i get my strength back in my fingers, mostly running through scales and other newbie techniques.

Ive made a conscious decision to act as if im picking up a guitar for the first time, hopefully to break some old bad habits... i really dont know how well thats going to work out though, i find myself wanting to just play, lol.

Anyone have suggestions on which nut to get to replace this stocker? Ive read the PRS American nut is a good option, i cant seem to find them online though.

Hey, congrats on the guitar! It is also on my to-get list sometime.

When I got my SE Bernie recently, I also had tuning issues. I took it to my tech and he just suggested to properly file the nut slots first rather than replacing it. After he did the precise work I can bend the strings to the moon and back without going out of tune now. Maybe you'd like to explore that possibility first? Unless you really want a better nut overall.

Hmm, ok... I figured I could just get a new nut and do it myself, but having a tech take a file to the nut on there might be a little cheaper. I'll talk to my buddy and see who he recommends in the area.

My tech did all the work and a setup for $25. Replacing the nut would have cost at least double that. It's not that expensive, either way.

I gave my buddy a call and he gave me 3 shops in the area that he trusts with his instruments, so called them all. Unfortunately the one he gave the highest praise for doesn't touch electric, even for just simple nut work, but I'm going to go check out the other 2 shops tomorrow, the both said it wouldn't be a problem regardless of which route I go, filing the stocker, or replacing it :)
