I happen to work in a pretty cool place, with pretty cool people, many of whom are my friends outside the workplace. We see shows together, support and enable each other and generally find as many ways as possible to engage our passions under the umbrella of "work" as possible. One of our rapidly growing brands does much of its marketing through social media and one of my co-workers does great video production. Last week we posted a video using a snippet from an ambient piece I did as the background music. This was well received and I've now been tasked with creating little musical vignettes for content. Most will be no more than 30 seconds, although there will occasionally be longer form videos. Sometimes I'll be creating just generic audio to be applied to any content, and other times I'll be composing in direct response to footage.
I've never done anything like this before, and I'm excited for the opportunity. It will be a good exercise- brevity never having been my strong suit. It is also forcing me to finally set up my mini-studio space in a more permanent fashion, and gain better control over the use of software instruments to fill out some of the arrangements.
I'm not sure where I'm going with this post, but I'll gladly solicit any tips on creating short form background music!
