Hey all,

Curious if anyone has seen any videos or was able to compare in person the sound differences between the new model hum buckers with the EQ (not sure if this is just a treble bleed or something else?) and the prior model versions with the coil tapping. Really curious how much of a difference in sound there is or if it basically sounds the same. I know there's mention of the benefits of the hum bucking, but I think you also get that benefit somewhat with the coil tap as it's partially sending some of the sound to the other coil, not sure if it's 70/30 or what.

I wondered if it's similar to this mod:

We were just talking about it in another thread, I used it on a couple guitars in the past and liked it. It gets close to that single coil vibe without neutering the tone and authority the way a normal coil split does.

I'm not sure why they elected to do that on a guitar that had the TCI pickups, as those do tap to true single coils. I really like that feature in the 58/15 Multi Tap pickups. Where it's needed is the traditional humbuckers, in place of the traditional coil split, IMO.

The new 24-08 does sound great though.

I have no actual evidence but id guess with alot of certainty that its a capacitor on the hot lead like the duncan "de mud" method is. Ive done that to a few neck pickups..i wouldnt say you get single coil tones. just less low end. Different flavor.

The 24-08, 35th Anniversary, Paul's and the Robben's signature had a coil tap + small value cap hot to ground, but according to PRS description, this is something different, JM PS; which came later. Can be the de mud. Can be something else. Get me some decent cavity shots and I will be able to tell.

they did but then in 2024 they all switched to the traditional partial tap / resistor. My '24 modern eagle has it. Even on the website you find the cap method was pre 24..odd to only change for one year.

Probably because 220-330pF does absolutely nothing. I got this tested just a few days ago. I have a socket for a capacitor in my regular flyer
