New closed covers for my SE. I hate naked pickups. This is much more elegant to me. Also sound is a little more warm and less aggressive. It was a pain in the ass to make her not squeal.

At the end I took them off... unfortunately the pickups were very bad sounding with that cover. I can't wait the time when I'll be able to swap for other pickups and a proper wiring.

It may have been microphonic feedback if the pickups haven’t been wax-potted

Your results make sense, especially since the smooth covers require the screw poles to be lowered flush with the top of the bobbin.

Are the covers brass or nickel/silver? Brass is known to take away more highs. Unplated nickel/silver seems to be agreed upon as the most transparent metal cover material.

Regarding the microphonics, if you do it again, melt some wax and pour into the new cover when you attach it. This will help stop the cover from vibrating and causing microphonics.

I always cover mine. I did wax mine but, the pole pieces are exposed. I've never tried the closed covers. That may be the difference. Either way...they really look great on your guitar!!

Seems brass to me. I had no squeal at all unless I raise the volume at "deafness level". Anyway... As soon I'll have the money to make it this guitar will have a good AlNiCo II nickel covered humbuckers with gold screw poles and a first class wiring.

Who? I would love to see what else is out there.
Tonerider makes great guitar pickups for instance. I love much more the three sets of Toneriders that I have on my Strats and Les Paul than the 3 times priced Duncans on my SG. Also Kluson makes great pickups. I remember the best Telecaster pickups I've ever heard. They were Klusons. Keep in mind that I have a set of Fender Custom Shop pickups on my Tele. Both Kluson and Tonerider are quite cheap.
