New closed covers for my SE. I hate naked pickups. This is much more elegant to me. Also sound is a little more warm and less aggressive. It was a pain in the ass to make her not squeal.

Thank you... she looks very good but playing a little more I've found that I don't like the sound. It became too much... how can I say... lost a lot of bite.Looking good! Nice mod!
At the end I took them off... unfortunately the pickups were very bad sounding with that cover. I can't wait the time when I'll be able to swap for other pickups and a proper wiring.
I've managed to kill that feedback. It was not easy but at the end I won. Anyway the sound was weaker and too warm for my tastes. It may have been microphonic feedback if the pickups haven’t been wax-potted
Seems brass to me. I had no squeal at all unless I raise the volume at "deafness level". Anyway... As soon I'll have the money to make it this guitar will have a good AlNiCo II nickel covered humbuckers with gold screw poles and a first class wiring.Your results make sense, especially since the smooth covers require the screw poles to be lowered flush with the top of the bobbin.
Are the covers brass or nickel/silver? Brass is known to take away more highs. Unplated nickel/silver seems to be agreed upon as the most transparent metal cover material.
Regarding the microphonics, if you do it again, melt some wax and pour into the new cover when you attach it. This will help stop the cover from vibrating and causing microphonics.
They were much more beautiful than good sounding. I'm waiting for an italian artisan (dreamsongs) who's gonna make more serious pickups for my SE. We are working together on the specs.Damn, that's a beautiful looking guitar and an awesome looking mod! I love it.
Absurdly high prices, honestly.I've been looking at Lambertone Pickups. You can choose the cover. They have the very clear version Crema or the hard edge version, the Grinder. I am considering the Crema for my S2 Starla.

Well... even Lollar and Fralin are absurdly priced. There are a lot of equally beautifully made pickups for way less. Way way less.Really? They are less than Lollar and similar to Fralin. Just sharing info of what I've been finding. Whatever.

Tonerider makes great guitar pickups for instance. I love much more the three sets of Toneriders that I have on my Strats and Les Paul than the 3 times priced Duncans on my SG. Also Kluson makes great pickups. I remember the best Telecaster pickups I've ever heard. They were Klusons. Keep in mind that I have a set of Fender Custom Shop pickups on my Tele. Both Kluson and Tonerider are quite cheap.Who? I would love to see what else is out there.
