Does anyone know how the mini toggles work? Do they chose one or two single coils> Or, do they chose one full single coil or two tapped single coils? Are these the same single coils as in the 513, 305, and DC3?

The 509 has still 5 full singlecoils, 4 of them paired. By pushing or pulling mini-switches only one coil is active instead of two.

No. I'm not. Other branch. I'm owner of a 513.
I own a 513 as well. The 513 and the 408 have different switching. The PRS propaganda says that the 509 is a mix 513 and the 408. I am wondering which switching they used on the 509. The website is not clear and I avoid assuming when I can. Do you know if there is a way to as PRS?

The combination between 513 and 408 is
the 5-way-bladeswitch for selection of Treble, Treble+SC, SC, SC+Bass, Bass and the mini switches for either SC or HB voicing at Treble and/or Bass.

The mini switches are not a coil split. Otherwise, there would be no claim of hybridism with a 408. It would be a plain old coil split like the 513 single coil modes with the resulting loss in volume between it and Modern Humbucking mode. The claim of 408 heritage means it's coil stealing for the single coil sounds. It's taking turns from the passive coil and adding that to the active coil. Furthermore, I think that's backed up by my observations that the mini-switches on my 509 are wired up exactly like my Siggy, and my two 408's. Typically, PRS coil splits through mini switches are two wire affairs(i.e. tap wire, ground wire). These are full four wire jobs like the 408 which are feeding a 5-way instead of a 3 way. And, there is no loss in volume between singlecoil and humbucking tones which was the big selling point of the 408 if you recall. That seems to point to the 509 being a true hybrid between a 408 and a 513.

So how do you like the 509 compared to the 513 so far? :)

That's a loaded question. It's like picking a favorite child. Let's just say that if I had only a 509 to play, I wouldn't feel that I had been let down. Sure, I'd miss the wider tonal pallet, but the touch is phenomenal. And, the tones are rich in harmonics in a different way.
