I had originally planned to have the top painted in Custom Orange Glow Smokeburst (Pete Dale's creation on one of his PS') but PRS indicated that it might not be the best option for this type of top (see pics).

I still think a glow could possibly work (?) - If not, some type of red color or related to red.

Any tried and true suggestions would be appreciated

All the best figure on that top is around the edges so I'd avoid a smokeburst. Not sure what's on the table at the moment for reds but others will know! Good luck, it looks stellar already... love the wood!

Your wood reminds me of an Arizona Sunset with the sun in the lower left:

I have no idea about colors to suggest, but dang, that is a heckuva beautiful piece of wood!

Try Vintage Sunburst, perhaps? I WAS gonna say Black Gold Burst... but that's MY favorite. Although, Burnt Maple Leaf would work.

Plus one on that, avoid a burst cause the flame on the edges are better than the center of that top. Those sunset pics from AP515 are beautiful, I'm sure it'll be really hard to replicate those but it does make me think you should do some research on staining figured maple. With all the tutorials and such on the web you should be able to come up with something special and learn some methods to achieve it. I'm a fan of Charcoal these days so that's my 2 cents but you might even find some color choice ideas when you do your research (if you do).

Another idea is the "faded" finishes by PRS, they always look great and have that extra uniqueness factor. Good luck, and we'll all love to see the results.

I too would go pink burst. As for red, the best colors I have seen have been private stock. Bummer, cause a dragons breath would be in order for that top.

If if your not stuck on red, do honey. That color on that one piece would be killer. Les que up the beast you recently got.

If not natural.....hard to beat tigereye. I wouldn't burst it, but thats just personal choice.

The two suggestions from PRS were Natural and Tiger Eye but those 2 just don't do it for me. I was thinking Dragon's Breath as well - i had a DGT in DB that turned out quite nice.

I take it back, I wouldn't put the sunset in the lower left. I'd put it in the circle of the control knobs. I'd have charcoal mountains under the controls and the sun above. Then the lines of the flame would be clouds. Maybe faded blue jean white and blue for the clouds with darker reds or golds mixed in and then the yellow sun and the black for the hills. Then when you stand to play the scene would be just like the photos.

How about what PRS refers to as "Blood Orange"? I assume Blood Orange is different from "Custom Orange Glow Smokeburst".
Just a thought since you seem to like orange.
I must admit, the sunset idea is nice however....this one taken from my backyard
