I just picked up a pretty nice 2010 PRS Custom 24 hanging in local shop, tagged for around $2k. My google fu is failing me, and I can't seem to figure out what a fair price is for this model and year. I would say the guitar is certainly worth that much, in terms of quality and sound, but I don't know in terms of market value.

Some specs-- not a 10 top, cherry sunburst, locking schaller tuning pegs, bird markers (the hollow style), fender-style trem. Can't think of anything else.

I have 7 days to return, and I actually told the guy, hey I'm no expert at pricing these, I'll take it on condition that if I find out I way overpaid you'll refund me, and he agreed. I won't be too put out if I paid a couple hundred to much, but any more then that, it goes back.

I seem to see prices all over the map on the web-- used McCarty's going for 1,500, other customs going for 2,200 used and customs on the big box online sites going for 2.4 - 3.3k. Also, some online stores have a pile of "private reserves" for 2.5-3.5k, which seems cheap-- as well as some up to 10k.

Any advice would be hugely appreciated, thanks.

Hey. Congrats on the buy. Price is one of the taboo topics on this forum. Check out recently closed auctions on eBay and you'll get an idea. That said, if you are digging the guitar, don't worry too much about the price. It's not a bad deal.

Check eBay's COMPLETED listings.
If you cant discuss price here you can always check at the other PRSForums.

Yes. eBay completed auctions.

People are welcome to discuss the value of their used PRS guitars. The discussion of new retail or wholesale pricing is off limits.

Oh, good thanks mod (I don't think I can spell your handle, lol). I've been cruising around the bay and looking at craiglist, and all in all, although I am sure with time and patience I could do a bit better, I think I did okay! Which is good, because I am already bonding pretty strongly with this guitar. My first PRS- and I've kind of wanted one since my bandmate got one in 1987. Back then they were way outta my price range (which is funny, because his would probably sell for around 5x what he got it for, if he still had it).

Btw-- what is the story with the hollow birds? Are they a lower price option alternative to the regular ones?

Well, I have to say, I have really bonded with this guitar, I am just loving it. At this point I don't really care if I overpaid a bit, I'm keeping it. I am sure one could do better, as per posts on other forums, but at the moment I haven't seen anything quite the same either locally or on the internet at a better price. I'm way to impatient to start culling through craig's list listings and hocking around all over town to find one for a few hundred bucks less.

So there it is! I have committed to it  And I have a feeling this will not be my last PRS!
