To my understanding, that's not the MODCAT. I'm not sure what that barcode, but I suspect it's more of a "shipping/tracking" barcode; my dealer peeled it off the case and stuck it back on the shipping box where it originally came from.

As I understand it, the MODCAT is actually a sticker that's inside the bridge pick-up cavity; you'll have to remove the bridge pick-up in order to view it. MODCATs typically have a code that looks something like this: 48M2FTHFN4T_CC_NB-B4 (originally posted by CantankerousCarl, another forum member).

There used to be a MODCAT Decoder site, but it appears to be down. There's another one out there, but it's been confirmed to be quite out of date.

Case looks like what you'd get with an Artist Package guitar. Color is Armando's Amethyst, maybe?

I'll defer to those who are better-versed than myself for any further speculation. :-)

Checked the shipping box...on the PRS return label it says Artist Relations. That would seem to explain the shorter MOD code with "B001"

I stand corrected. I just double-checked my sticker, and it does in fact have the MODCAT on it.

I learned something today! :-)

Bit of thread drift - I had the pleasure of playing this guitar last weekend. When I first held this finish under the spotlights, I was just speechless at what PRS is able to do with its finishes these days. It is jewel-like, in the sense that when you move it, new facets sparkle and appear. It shifts from brilliant purple to diamond blue as the light hits the flame; constant movement. Braz neck and 57/08s and it sounds and plays like a jewel too. I've owned PRS guitars for years and to me, the company still seeks to keep improving their guitars: more remarkable finishes, better pickups, and rigid quality control. =K
