I have been babying my Modern Eagle I NOS Trem so much that I had it up for sale for a few months, but I think it's too rich for folks in this economy. So, I am seriously considering swapping out the original RP pick ups and replacing them with the following. If you own a ME and have replaced the RP pick ups let me know which pick ups you replaced them with and your tonal experience.

I do favor VB/HFS, 53/10 and DGT pickups in that order. I would love to try a pair of Dragon I if I can find them. I am also considering 57/08 neck and 59/09 bridge.

I also voted for the combo with the 08/09. I have the 09's in my ME and they kill in it. I would think Dragons would be great in there also depending on how hot a pup you need, I have a set laying around and may eventually experiment with them but the 09's work so good I have not tampered with it.

one thing too is that I think that covered pups look best in there and the Dragons are black bobbins so looks wise the 09's do it better for me anyways.

I have heard people going swapping to 57/08 in the MEs with great results that being said I just love the ME pickups in my ME2

I have never found issue with the RP pups. I say leave them.

I actually love RP pups, but with a stable of my guitars that include 1980's 48th St. Custom Shop Tele loaded with Bare Knuckle Mules I need another sound.

I think this alone makes for a case for covered pups.

What's that?

I have rps in my original ME1 and when you get the height setting correct they are great, that said as I have the options I have a set of 57/08s in a trem (great for blues) 53/10s in a hard tail ( a bit cleaner, kind of the best tele you ever played ;-) ) and 59/09s in a singlecut trem ME1 ( a bit hotter than the 57s) so its all a question of what you are after ME1s can do just about anything given the right pickups and height adjustment enjoy ;-)

I agree with your assessment. I do need a bluesy pickups and may consider 57/08s as a set though I do recall wanting more output from them, now and then. 53/10 may be the most balanced out of them all, but I might have a hard time finding a set.

I played Brad737's ME I with Dragon Is not long ago and it sounded HUGE! I think the PRS Metal (\m/) pickups would probably sound good too but I've never actually heard them in an ME I.

I'd love to find a pair of Dragon I pickups and put them as is! I also wonder how they compare to the new Metal pickups ~~~

I played an ME at GC that had braz neck and 5708 pups, in fact I've played it twice. One sexy guitar. I don't know for sure what pups would work best but those 5708s were intoxicating in that guitar. I don't have the funds for that kind of guitar right now but I can assure you I will have one.

I am very curious about the M pup as I have a single humbucker guitar that my singer made for me. I would like to try an M pup in that for kicks.

I'm leaning towards 57/08 b/c I already have a CU24 loaded with VB/HFS for the moment . . . .

I have 59/09s in my ME1. I would go for 57/08s (bluesy) or 59/09s (rockier) in yours.
