Hi there,

I recently purchased a used '98 CE22. Some pictures can be found in the following links:

As far as I can tell based on the description and pictures, it's a '98 CE 22 (based on the serial number), with a single piece mahogany body and Dragon IIs. I can't figure out whether or not it's a wide-fat or wide-thin neck carve since descriptions in both links contradict each other.

I found the following in the PRS Model History:

CLASSIC ELECTRIC 22: 1994 - Current. 22-fret versions of CE Bolt-on and CE Bolt-on Maple-Top. Mahogany body/ back from ’95 as well as stop-tail option. Solid Mahogany body discontinued in 2000, stop tailpiece & wide thin neck profile discontinued in 2001. Offered as wide fat, tremolo only from 2001.
However, that doesn't mention the neck carve for the pre-2001 CE22s explicitly.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Wow, that's REALLY nice - congrats! Most 22 fret PRS from that era are Wide-Fat in my experience. However, I've owned 90s era CE-22s in the past with both Wide-Thin and even Regular profiles (thinner nut width), though you don't see them as often.

I think the name is a CE22 Standard because of the all Hog body. The BS in the cavity is for Black Sunburst. Neck could be either W.F or W/T (the may both in that era), but is probably W/F. Nice one, congrats!

Thanks, guys.

I didn't realize they made CE22s with both wide-thin and wide-fat carves in that era. I'll make sure to take some measurements.

Nice one! One possibility to determine the neck shape is to shoot an email to PRS support along with the serial number, I don't know how far back their records go, though. Doesn't hurt to ask, and they've been helpful for me the one time I asked about a particular guitar's specs.

At least one of my CEs had the neck shape written in one of the pickup cavities ("WT"). I saw a photo of the bridge cavity in those ads but not the neck. Maybe take out the neck pickup and take a look.

Otherwise, your best bet is to measure the neck and compare with known neck shapes.
