Hello all
I own a SE Custom with a wide Thin neck and looking to upgrade to a S2 possibility
How will the Pattern Regular compare to the Wide Thin ?
I do not have a local shop that stocks S2 to go and check it out they only have SE

I find the Pattern Regular more comfortable than the Wide Thin and can play it longer. But I can go back and forth easily.

I'm a WT guy myself but the pattern regular isn't bad, just different than I want. If I didn't know about the WT and the internet I would have learned to deal. Now it's probably more mental than anything. I play all sorts of different necks and typically adjust but since PRS has the neck I prefer in various models I like I choose to enjoy my SEs, skip the S2, and go to core instead. Others may disagree but after researching this topic to death I don't really view the S2 as an upgrade. They both have wins, loses, and ties in the pro/con breakdown. The core on the other hand has ZERO loses.

I cycled through quite a few SEs to learn what I wanted in a core and then was patient for a used one that worked with my budget and style. I still enjoy a couple SE's daily and wouldn't part with them unless it came down them or a core.

How does the Core Differ from SE with a bolt on neck ?

Everything

Basics:

Made in USA vs Asia
Best woods
US Bridge vs Korean
Sick tuners
US Pickups vs Korean
PRS spec'd electronics vs Alpha
Thick figured maple cap vs Thin figured veneer over maple cap
Harder fret material
Better nut
Violin top
Strap buttons
Knobs
Plastics
Tank of a hard case vs gigbag

Everything is of higher quality and standard with more meticulous attention to detail for core. SE's are good guitars but core they are not. I've taken some SE's to the distance of upgrades to get as close to core as possible. Great guitars but still short of the core mark.

To give you an idea of the attention to detail on my core Cu24... I'm installing rosewood pickup rings right now and there are 8 or 9 different initials in the bridge cavity of people that have touched it at the factory in some way. I wasn't expecting that!
