Hi,

I have a late 90's CE24, rosewood fret board on maple neck. The back of the neck has a satin finish.
I recently noticed that the neck felt slightly sticky so I gave it a rub down with a damp cloth. Afterwards I noticed that the finish had warn quite noticeably on the bass side between the 3rd and 9th frets (I'm all about the rhythm :0)
All the gunk accumulated over the years must have been masking this.
The neck now feels much better but I am concerned that as it is now exposed wood it will soon attract more dirt and oil and quickly return to the sticky state it was in.

I would like to protect it in some way and have read about various oils, including Tru Oil, which can be used. However in all the articles I have come across the neck is being rubbed down completely before refinishing.
I don't think I'm brave enough to attempt this.

Could I refinish the neck leaving the original finish in place where it is still intact?
Or am I better just cleaning the neck regularly and leaving the worn finish as is?

Thanks in advance.

You can use Tru Oil, or gun oil on it. I used to clean the neck on my old JP6 like they do in this video.

Personally, I love a gun oil neck. Bare rosewood would be a close second.

Sorry for the non PRS care video

I hav4 suggested this before, it would be nice if PRS would do a video series on setups and using their fretboard cleaner for care of the fretboard.
A lot of guitar companies do this, would dig seeing PRS have new vids up on this.
