The PRS Big Mouth cab arrived today for use with my HXDA 30; and I'm happy to report that it's exactly, 100% what I hoped for.
Previous Cabs I tried with the HXDA:
I'd previously used a 212 Mesa Recto cab with the amp, a Mesa 3/4 back 112, a PRS David Grissom 212, and a PRS 112 Stealth with this amp and my previous HXDA 50. Of this group, the Recto cab had the edge (I like 212s better than 112s, so that's part of it), but I no longer have it. So I decided to team the HXDA up with the Big Mouth PRS cab. PRS had one in stock.
I figured the PRS Big Mouth would give me some of what the Recto cab gave me, but I hoped it would be warmer and less piercing, more ear and mic friendly, like PRS' other cabs. And that's exactly what it is.
And I am SO glad I got this cab!
It's a great match for the HXDA, with a nicely focused closed-back, vintage sort of sound. It's not boomy, it takes gain very well, and it's also not shrill sounding even though the speakers aren't broken in yet (PRS spec V-30s).
It's also not too heavy, and it looks great. A nice and subtle touch is the black piping around the edges of the cab like an old Marshall cab.
Here's a shot in context in my room. Gotta say, I'm really happy with this.
