New Beater Acoustic Day

I've been messing around with Yamaha FG800s for a while, in stores - had always heard that they punch way above their price point, and my experience has been that yeah, they do. I occasionally like to do a little busking, or just messing around outdoors, and don't really feel comfortable with taking the Guild D-40...so I've been meaning to pick one up for a while. Haven't been playing much of anything lately, felt like a jumpstart, and decided to snag one today - an FG-800M, specifically, which means a matte finish. I'm a sucker for a satin finished guitar...and for $206 it was a no-brainer, plays great and sounds far better than a $200 acoustic should.

Congrats!

Our local shop stocks Yamaha along with Martin, Taylor, and a few others. Every visit I go through the acoustic section and always end up with a Yamaha in hand— they are just wonderful guitars! Sadly each time I fall for one, there’s no money in the guitar fund… and within a week or so that lovely Yamaha is sold.

Glad to see you didn’t let that one get away!

Yamahas are often pretty reasonably priced used. They just don’t have the charming cachet or whatever.
