First off...FedEx, you suck!!! I can understand that your driver may not have wanted to carry my package up a flight of stairs, but the least that person could have done was to ring my doorbell to me know that the package arrived!!!

Once, I got my package inside, I wanted to rip everything open like a kid at Christmas but I was gentle...

Now on to the good stuff!!! For weeks I've been agonizing over which amp I should buy, as evidenced by this thread on Sevenstring.org...

Much props to those who participated in that thread, but major props go out to cwhitey2 for helping me make my decision clear!!! After playing the amps at Guitar Center and the Chicago Music Exchange, I knew this was the amp that I must have, and now, I got it!!!

Behold MY 'Holy Grail,' the PRS Archon 25!!!

Haven't really got to play the lead channel yet because I'm so loving the clean channel...it is THAT good!!! However, I'm off work for the rest of the week, so I'll be playing this amp at length!!! O' Happy day!!!

Congrats on the amp. I too am looking for something smaller to compliment the new pad and have considered the Archon 25.

Congrats!

Please provide any comparisons to other amps as best you can. I've recently acquired a 100w Archon for home use, but my band would not appreciate that at our gigs, even at the 50w setting, whereas a 25w combo in 13w mode might be acceptable. (Doesn't that seem weird, that the home/gig uses are reversed?)

If you have the wherewithal and capability, some audio clips would be cool.

(I deleted my request for pics - apparently you posted some, but I can't see them here at work...)

Somehow, I'm not surprised with your situation and that's one of the reasons that I didn't go with the 50 watt Archon. As far as clips go, I don't have a mic yet and iPhone vids will not do this amp justice.

Su-weet! Congrats, and welcome to Club Archon! It's a great amp, and you're right - the clean channel is golden.

And shinksma - does the master volume on the 100w not tame things well enough? I use my 100w at home and I don't have to have it loud to get a sound I'm happy with. Certainly nowhere near gig volume.

The 100w, at half power, with master vol way down, would probably still be too loud for my bandmates. The acoustic practice amp I use, at 10w, is too loud at 1/3 volume. We play mostly acoustic-oriented instruments in venues where we use the PA to fill out the sound - it isn't a necessity, per se. So my rock'n'roll electric guitar and distortion pedals through any kind of amp is already at the edges of tolerence, which is why I usually play direct into the PA. The Archon head+cab would also occupy valuable "stage" space. As it is we are crowded and bumping elbows.

Believe me, i'd love to use the Archon...

Looks like an awesome rest of the week is ahead of you...

I also would second the request for sound clips, also let's see how the effect loop works for you since a lot of us are struggling with it. So can't wait for reports:-)

No pedals at the moment, so I can't address the loop issue. However, there is a massive humming noise if I crank the lead channel master volume. I don't hear it at lower volumes though.

Ah...makes sense. Sounds like your bandmates need their own Archons!

Update...my amp died :( !!! Went to play again after a break this afternoon and tried to power up but no lights, no sound, no power...nothing. AMS is shipping out a replacement so I'll be back in business by the end of next week, if not sooner!

Bummer though because I love this amp!!!
