Apparently I am suffering from the same ailment as Les. This landed yesterday.

I don't have any idea why I bought it. Didn't need it. Don't have room for it. But, it sure is purty! And I wasn't doing anything foolish financially. No harm, no foul. Actually, I do know why I bought it; all of you Custom 50 owners, and you know who you are, fawning over it's abilities. I hate you all :p

The box was a little haggard looking when UPS dropped it off. Looked like it was moved end over end instead of lifted up. I only had a few minutes after it got delivered to make sure it was in better shape than the box. Everything was pristine on the inside. Fired it up and let it rip. In that 15 or 20 minutes I would say that everything everyone else has said is right on point. This thing can cover a lot of ground. It's a keeper, that's for sure. My initial impression is that the Archon is the Custom on steroids. You can definitely tell they're from the same lineage, at least IMO. Looking forward to getting to know this thing better over the weekend.

Gorgeous!
Interesting your thoughts on Archon vs Custom. I've not had a chance to play through an Archon yet. Enjoy dialing this baby in. There's a lot to love here!
Congrats!

Congratulations on the amp, Everything I hear about PRS amps is exceptional.
This side of the pond they only seem to stock the Archon.
Shame they don't do the Cus 50 or HXDA as well !!!
.

Don't need it? Of course you do! Why? Because you WANT it. Want = NEED when it comes to gear. ;)

And since you now said "all of you Custom 50 owners" this time, I guess I am in on the hate! I think I speak for the group when I say that you're going to love us all by the time the weekend is over! :D You're using a different speaker and an open combo, so that aspect will be significantly different for us, but play with the presence and pull mids controls. Pull mids is a significant tonal difference and ads a lot to the versatility. When you pull, drop the bass some, maybe turn the mids down a little... I like both mids settings and they are different enough to both be "a thing."

I think you're going to really like it. I hope you LOVE it. It's certainly cool looking and I know they sound great. I know I need to quit saying this, but the first thing I think every time I see the combo is "I bet that would REALLY rock with a Scumback!"

The pull-mid is really cool! It took me a second to hear what it's doing, but it adds some low mid content that gives a ballsy, Marshall feel.

I had bandmates over for some recording earlier this week, and we ran the other guitarist's 7 string into the Custom with the "depth" engaged, and a Tubescreamer in front... WHOA.

Well, not necessarily...sometimes I need a piece of gear to do a project, and sell it immediately after I'm done with the project.

Honest!

Same here... I haven't figured out what the projects are yet, but I'm working on having the gear!

You're using a different speaker and an open combo,

Actually, it's closed back. Gives a nice little thump! I also may just pull the Scumback out of the HXDA and give it a shot.

Thanks everyone for the kind words. Goofed around with it for a little more than an hour this afternoon. I am really, really liking this amp. So much so that I may (may) be tempted to move the HXDA on to a new home. We'll see.

Totally!

Also...

Sometimes I buy a thing for a project and keep it for a very long time. I never really know what a piece of gear is about until I use it in the context of a project.

Hey, Bodia, buddy, you are missing the whole freakin' multiple amp POINT!

More is more!!
Wow, no brainer. Thanks for slapping me back to reality Les! I knew that comment would draw your ire. ;) Besides, I spent too much on a complete set of NOS Mullards and the Scumback to part with the HX/DA any time soon.

So wait, you now have Archon, HX/DA and Custom 50? That should cover about anything.

Cool on the closed combo. I guess I hadn't paid enough attention to the back of them. Mine is a head so it's open back LOL
