MA Pete
Pattern Thin Convert!
March 1st I was at PRS building a Private Stock. The 594 GOM had just been announced, in late February. I was floored, to me it was an extension of 6+ years of DC 245 Ted love and obsession, a Short Scale DC with the scale slightly lengthened, a beefier neck carve, a two-piece bridge, 2 volume and 2 tone controls, locking tuners, and a thicker body.
It was my favorite guitar ever just based on that description, even before I played one!!
My build from that day:
I ended up substituting the below Cocobolo Board for the above Ziricote one:
With my Private Stock Vault Crew! I had originally spec'ed two, but had a hard time deciding on what to order, so I started with one and came back later in the year (in September) to continue with more.
Fondling Paul's 594 Prototype:
For anyone thinking "wow, a March 1st spec, and just getting it now?" - That is on me, not PRS. They were very gracious to allow me to make some changes along the way, including to the Edge Knots, an inlay that had never been done before, which is what delayed it from the fall to now.
It made some appearances on PSF along the way:
And finally into my hands today!!
I went for a more reserved look on the headstock, no binding, just a beautiful Cocobolo Headstock Veneer (with just the PRSh signature), and Cocobolo Tuner Knobs - I dig the way it turned out!
Initial tone report - This is a Semi-Hollow 594 (with no F-Hole obviously), so it is lightweight at 6 pounds, 15 ounces. It feels great in your hands, light, but not too light. You notice that it feels light, but I bet most people wouldn't think it was Semi-Hollow.
Then you plug it in. Holy cow, it sounds HUGE!! Monstrous. In many of my 594's I have felt I needed to replace the Bridge pickup with something slightly hotter. So far, I don't think I will want to in this case, it sounds GREAT! (I reserve the right to eat those words later, re not upgrading the pickups...
) Bridge pickup, Neck pickup, both pickups, really awesome vintage PAF Blues and Rock tones!!
This guitar is really something, it feels so great, looks so great, sounds unbelievable, really a great experience for me to get it in - my first personally spec'ed 594 (two more in the oven!) - a very special milestone in my 594 adventure.
Thank you, Paul Miles, Tina, Eric C, and to the PRS Private Stock team!!
Les - I declare this one a "Lifetime Keeper"!!
More tone reports to follow as I experience it some more.
Awesome N5D today!!
