I will try to give a fair opinion my friend told me this amp was stupid loud that was an understatement,I played this amp last Sunday 4 sets. This amp wants to stay on the clean side no matter what settings I used, the cleans were outstanding super reverb type of clean.i tried to get a crunch sound but it still sounded clean no matter what I tried master up volume down and vise versa, now Iam no amp expert I don't know what makes an amp tick. This amp took pedals in the front like no other amp I ever played outstanding. So I set the volume at 10. O'clock and master at 10 o'clock and used my ocd for leads. For my playing situation this packs too much punch my Custom50 covers that ground perfectly I could be wrong but I think Doug and David nailed the perfect amp for large stage applications loud and clean, also two el34's would have placed it the same arena as other 50 watt amps so good job there. Would I buy it no only because it's to powerful for the venues I play.the 30 watt version would be ideal for me.Once again this is my opinion you would have to try it and make your own assumption

Do you get good crunch tones out of your Custom 50 at studio levels, or do you need the master wide open?

Chester I can't say enough about the custom 50 Iam able to pull just about any sound I need at all volume levels excellent amp, and the clean channel is outstanding

Good to know Bluesboy - I'm looking out for one in the UK. A few combos available but I need a head

Patience, patience ...

Good luck the head is more versatile I use mine with many different cabs and they all sound wonderful can't go wrong with custom 50 sometimes I just use the clean channel for a whole gig with a good overdrive pedal I can switch between pristine cleans and overdrive.

Thanks for the review, Bluesboy! Yes, you'd like the 30 watt version. I'm posting some info on it today re: the effect of changing the V1 tube in another thread.

Your welcome Les I did have the chance to crank it up before patrons arrived I'll tell you this amp is a beast goes into Marshall territory but unlike most high gain amps the controls mid treble etc actually really work kudo's to Paul,Doug, and David and the reverb is like floating on a cloud.
