This is my second PRS, I found this as such a great deal I couldn't say no. Was my first experience with a top shelf PRS guitar. Mine has a painted neck, and I see so many of these with bare wood necks. Is mine an early model or something? I'm interested in why there's this difference, as I don't see much on 408s with painted necks online.

Your "Painted" neck would be Mahogany and if your guitar is a standard 408 it would be all mahogany also, if its a MT it is Maple top and mahogany back
The plain wood necks are rosewood ( crackwood )
Sweet guitar you have there 408s rock

Congrats!
Mostly 408's come standard with painted necks, rosewood neck is an upcharge mostly for artist packages, or for limited editions.

Congrats! 408s are awesome. And the neck information above is spot on.

Thanks for the info guys! Can't wait to crank this guitar up at this weekend's show. I play it through a 50 watt EVH 5153 into a Mesa Boogie vertical 2x12 with V30s. I played this configuration in the music store to test it out but only at a lower volume. Gig level should be even better!

I do need to lower the action however. Gotta get on that today.
