As some know, my recent heart surgery came with post-surgery weight lifting restrictions (this is what happens when they basically cut your chest in half, they prefer that you not lift something that will rip it back open).

I'm not allowed to schlep my guitars up and down the stairs to my studio. Sure, I could have someone else take them to the studio, but then I'd have to have someone take 'em back upstairs because I like to play them just sitting around noodling acoustically in the den, etc.

And because I'm still in recovery mode, I spend more time upstairs than in the studio. So...

As a result, I haven't played through an amp for a month! I can go into the studio without the guitars, and my amps look at me balefully as if to say, "What's wrong with us? You don't love us any more?"

But of course, I do love them. It's all very upsetting to the lot of us - me, the two amps, and the speaker cabs. I turned the amps on without guitars the other day just to let them know I still care (and to make sure they hadn't picked up any strange noises over the past month, they hadn't).

"Why are you posting this, Les, no one actually cares."

"I'm posting this because there haven't been any new DG30 or HXDA posts in a while and I also miss posting about my great PRS amps!"

So talk about your amp experiences, guys, I'm jealous but I want to live vicariously.

Time for a little Yamaha THR amp Les.
Runs on AA batteries or 110v.
Yep, it is a modeler, but you can crank it up when in your den and noodle to some music shows on Paladia or AXS TV.

About the size of a Stanley lunchbox.
I use mine quite often when I do not want to turn on the bigger ones.

Les, I'm only a few hours away, and willing to be a guitar Sherpa!

Seriously though, can't say I've had a ton of time to play either, mostly due to work. I did recently make a new pedalboard, smaller and more compact, which has been great. Added some TC Electronic pedals and a Bogner Wessex. Also fiddled with my EQ pedal at different volume levels, and did my homework on the Fletcher Munson curves, as they relate to frequency response at higher volumes. Toned down the 500hz and under frequencies at higher MV settings, to get back that tight, thumping tone. Not heavy metal tight, just enough to dismiss the woofy low end. I was doing myself a disservice by not adjusting my EQ settings enough for gig volume vs home volume. Looking forward to hearing the difference next time I play out.

At the moment, I'm chilling on the beach in Charleston, SC. A little vacation never hurt anyone.

Les, I'm no expert but you've never written ill about PRS at any time.......in fact if not world's biggest proponent, you are right up there.....so if I were at PRS, or indeed even a large dealer of PRS, I would be getting a nice wee Archon 25 round to your house, (paying for the delivery dude to unbox it for you), "tout de suite", so that you can rave about it while happily convalescing

:)

Take care and keep mending

Get a loaner of a really lightweight guitar? And one of those really small amps? Okay, so it is not the preferred brand......But it IS under 5 pounds.....

Best of luck on the healing process.

Shhh...shhh...there, there...this too shall pass...think peaceful, serene thoughts. You are in an open field, with no concerns, the sunlight happily splaying on your face, but with a light breeze to whip away the heat. The nearby forest teems with life that don't threaten you. The air smells clean and untainted...

Les,
Send me your address, and I'll send you one of those little Vox Amplugs. They certainly don't sound like real amps, but they'll do. All you do is plug that into your output jack, plugs in some earbuds, and go to town. You can also plug your iPhone in, and jam along to some tunes.

A very generous offer, but honestly I'm good!

Forgive me following my own post...

I was strong enough to write a new ad track in the studio today! I'm really excited. First day I really felt up to it. And yeah, I hired a guitar player to lay down the guitar parts. LOL!!

But after 4 weeks, it feels GREAT to get back to the work I love.

Wow great news. That must have been a nice feeling to get more back to normal. Keep working on your recovery and all of the PT/exercises they may have given you. I'm sure you'll be stronger than ever soon.

Well this just sounds like the perfect excuse to buy a hollowbody! Pronto!

Uh oh, hide your women, guys...Les is back on the street! :vroam:
:D
That's great news Les.

Its been an eventful 2 weeks for me, musically. First, it's a new band brewing, complete with a totally new setlist that is pretty unfamiliar territory for me. Had to miss last week's practice, today's was called due to someone having to work late and we have my first gig with them on the 19th. It's not often I get butterflies, but right now, I'm a bit nervous. I haven't crammed since college!
