My journey has begun!

I had my visit to the vault on Wednesday. I took my wife with me. We both really enjoyed the visit and getting to meet everyone. We didn't get so spend much time with Paul but did get to meet him. They had several one piece tops for me to look at. Unfortunately, none of them really got my attention. I did end up finding a two piece top that is pretty cool so I went with that. I liked it better than the one piece examples there and it was a good bit less money. I also decided to go with the bone nut. I think that is about all I changed on the specs. We found some really nice looking wood for the guitar. It will definitely be interesting to see how it comes out. I learned a little more about wood while I was there. I learned that a piece of wood may not work so well for certain colors but would work for other colors. That actually caused me to pass on a few tops that were interesting. They told me that I needed a piece that was pretty light in color to work with the finish I chose. Now I wait some more. :)

I know that people obsess over the tops and decor - nothing wrong with that - but the best part of a PS model is the custom-made feel that can't really be described in words, and the details in the way they sound.

They're really special. I hope you love yours once it arrives!

Just glad you posted. You dropped off the map for a while and we were concerned. Happy to hear about the vault trip. Had to be a blast!

Glad you got a set that made you smile, while one piece tops are rare , I've always prefered a perfect bookmatch.
The wood color acceptance is a big deal , that's why Maple is SO popular as it is typically neutral to amber and accerts dye well .
The woods with inherent color are a bit more finicky.

Good to have you back Jason! Congrats on the trip to the vault and meeting the Legend ;~)) Shame that the wait for a selection of one piece tops did not result in acquisition of the same, but I am sure you will be happy with what you get!!

Thanks for the update, I look forward to seeing and hearing the final product in a year or so (and details along the way) ;~))

Congrats! The vault trip was a blast for me too. My only mistake was not doing a factory tour while there. I’ve had a tour at Experience a few times, just never while production was happening.
My wife and I were the only two there so we got a personal tour and were able to get up close to things that people don't normally get to see that close up. It was a good tour and a good time.

One on one tours are amazing. I was fortunate enough to get one from Shawn. Even went through the Archive. Hard to believe it was 6 years ago.
