My journey has begun!

Jack is a great guy. I've worked with him on many builds over the decades and have never been disappointed. He is my goto
person when it comes to spec'ing out an instrument.
He will definitely be my go to if I ever do another one of these. I had bought some part and such from him over the years. he is my go to place for pots and knobs. I will be checking his site for everything first going forward.

I didn't want to stray too far from the woods I know and like. As soon as I saw the figured mahogany neck on another PS I was looking at, I knew I had to have that. I wanted to get a set of 57/08 pickups that were wound a little hotter like a couple of sets I have. They couldn't guarantee they would be in that range and wouldn't custom wind a set to make sure they got them there. The 59/09 pickups are in the range of my hotter 57/08 pickups. I am expecting them to be similar to the uncovered 57/08 pickups in my P22 trem. I figured worst case scenario, I will pull the set from my current 594 and put the stock pickups back in it and put those in this guitar. I have good feelings about the 59/09 pickups after some conversation with Jack though. I was going to get them as a covered pickup but they changed them this year to have the square bobbins so they can't put covers on them anymore.

My stop tail P22 is a 2012 Experience guitar. It is one of the ones in this article below. Mine is the Livingston Lemon Drop finish. My P22 Trem and this one both have the Pattern Regular neck carves. It is the one thing I would change on both of them. I would much rather have the Pattern neck carve on them.

I actually was debating on keeping the Pattern Vintage neck carve on the PS or going with a Pattern. The Studio I bought in the fall was really making that a hard decision. The neck on that guitar just feel perfect to me. I figured that having the wood binding instead of plastic is going to make the PS neck feel closer to the Pattern neck on my Studio. I don't hate the neck on my 594 by any means. It is one of my most played guitars.

Yours looks freaking killer.

Pattern Vintage is my favorite neck carve, have it on my P245T and my DC594. Pattern is my second favorite. Can’t go wrong with either.

Is their an option sheet or something? Or, do you just start asking about things you've seen? A PRS neophyte like myself wouldn't know where to start...

The dealers have a form that they walk through with you and discuss the options.
What were some of the options you chose that needed approval...or, didn't get approved?

How does a 594 DC body differ from a Custom DC? Or does this just infer the control layout?
If not, what control layout?

Okay...
I found an order form online, but it's 'fill-in-the-blank'.
I go to the PRS site, and your finish isn't listed... How do I know what options are available; even if they are subject to approval?

I'm guessing this is where having a good liaison comes in?

Sorry for the '20 questions'...
I just find the whole process fascinating and exciting. I am genuinely excited for you.
I hope to place my order within a couple years; until then, I hope you don't mind me living vicariously through you.

They approve every build request. It went through three people for approval. The 594 DC body is thicker than the CU22 body. It also sets the stage for the bulk of the options with the guitar such as control layout and neck carve. You can make changes from there.

Here are some things I asked about that were no go items.
Stainless Steel Frets
57/08 pickups wound on the hotter side
Covered 59/09 pickups
Santana headstock
Specific value of resistors in the tap circuit
West St. Dragon on the top like the West St. Limited

I know the options since I went through the process. I have a bunch of them written down. They made some changes this year on what is available.

I don't mind the questions at all. That is part of the reason I started this thread. I think it is a good thing to share these experiences. I know I have enjoyed reading these types of posts over the years.

Hopefully there are no issues with me sharing this image. I got this link from going through the spec process. This is the finish and this one has the 20th anniversary birds like I am getting too.
