My DGT is my #1 - thinking of another PRS

I'm head over heels with my PRS DGT and it's far and away my #1 gigging guitar. The ONLY reason I even consider bringing a second guitar to gigs is because of the trem and fear of breaking a string mid-set. I have a Suhr T which is kick ass, but it just does not have the punch, authority and perfection of humbuckers that match so well for live use.
I'm holding onto the Suhr and I'm going to play it for the next year or so and probably gig it more than the DGT. But I'm wondering what PRS would be a perfect compliment to the DGT.
Honestly, as a gigging guitar I think maybe the DGT is all it need. What do you think?

It's certainly all David Grissom needs, and he's a pretty major player.

Though it's certainly fun to have more than one PRS, and you'll find plenty of enablers here (like me) who'll be more than happy to spend your money for you! ;)

Anyone have experience with something like the "tremel-no"? I guess it's a contraption so you can still use the trem (I am a "warbler" :) but if a string does break it locks the bridge in place and strings keep pressure so you don't go out of tune?

I would go CU24 or 408 for the variety

Is the 408 a rare bird for PRS (are they continuing building them?)
I'll have to research the CU24, thanks for the info!
My DGT with light trem work stays in tune beautifully... it's really a work of art. But if I break a string (haven't yet after 20+ gigs, changing strings every 3 or so) wouldn't that automatically throw the trem out of tune? I don't think there would be a way to protect against that? Unless I'm mistaken?

Paul's Guitar with a stoptail, unless you gotta have a trem. But 408's are still being built and they're not all that rare. A lot of members have one or more.

I'd go with the LSchefman Signature Model.

"Les, there isn't an LSchefman Signature Model."

"Well, maybe there is and you just haven't looked hard enough."

"No, Les, there isn't, and there never will be. That is a figment of your imagination. Basically, no one thinks your playing is worthy of such a thing."

"Hey. Do not kill a man's dreams..."

The DGT is my absolute fav right now, and has been for quite some time! The versatility of the dual volume controls for each pick up, plus the dgt pick ups are simply off the charts for me. However if you're looking for a different flavour, I'd suggest anything with the 57/08's, or, if you dig the DGT as much as you say, look for another one or perhaps the all hog standard.

You sound a lot like me: my DGT took over and I bought a custom 24 to compliment it. My other guitar is a Suhr tele.

I don't get along with the 5708. It's too much velvet in the bass response and lacks punch, through it's fantastic clean. The 5909 has been the opposite and exactly what I want dirty but not clean. I'm going to try some thornbuckers in the custom but I'll probably end up swapping it for an SC58, which I'll probably throw the Thornbuckers or some Lollar Imperials in. I think if you have a taste for well built modern takes on vintage instruments, the SC58/current SC245 or something semi hollow with a stop tail would compliment your rig well.

Thanks guys, I rarely if every use the split coils on the DGT (knob in UP position). Definitely not in mid song (not fast enough LOL) and have not used it at a gig yet either. On the flip side I feel like as a pure humbucker guitar with trem, this is IT! Mine has a great top but compared to many others it's nicely subdued more like a vintage LP than anything else. Just spectacular. And what I enjoy is that it's used (with a few minute dings) so I'm not scared shitless to gig it... it's come to every show since the day I got it (literally, pulled it out of the case, tuned it up and gigged that night).
I have a Gibson Reissue Black Beauty R4 (this was very expensive, but was my 10th wedding anniversary gift so of course has incredible sentimental value, I don't normally gig this one out and NO WAY am I bringing my #1, the DGT and the LP -- way too much guitar / value and I'd be devastated if they both got stolen at once!
So, I have the all Mahogany / stop tail, P90 thing covered with the LP (for recording)
I have the humbucker thing covered with the DGT (trem)
The Suhr T was going to be the incredible single coil dream but honestly the jury is still out. Fantastic neck but having probably with intonation / sustain that I attribute to the Wilkinson saddles they use. I'm replacing the saddles so I will wait and see how that does.

But man my PRS is just a joy to play and absolutely goes head to head with Suhr, Gibson Custom Shop no problem!
(BTW on my Gibby it was essential to have the nut recut AND it didn't start staying in tune, intonating well, etc.... until I dropped anothe $150 on faber bridge and tailpiece... THAT was a little annoying!

Hey There I too had an amazing classic antique with Braz board with a bucker in the bridge that just killed!! I used that too for a few years before I sold it (shouldn't done that, but "they come, they go"). I really like the neck 57/08 on my 245, a tad moreso than the DGT neck pup, but when combined I really like the tones of the DGT pups, and especially the bridge pup. The splits are off the charts too. I also just a few moments ago bought my second DGT, a Goldtop!!

TBH I've actually considered the Single Cut models. Again, humbuckers and not fulfilling my single coil dreams but maybe I'm just finding I really dig humbuckers for live gigs?
And the SC comes even closer to an LP, right? Seeing as I leave my LP home (for reasons mentioned above) this might be the ticket.
Again, the Suhr is great and I need more time with it but there is NO question the DGT is #1.
If I wanted another I'd have to flip the Suhr.

Makes perfect sense. I think you might be a perfect candidate for an SC58 (solid, not chambered & with TOM bridge) with some Lollar El Rayos. Sounds like you want another guitar with power, vintage tone, humbucker power and single coil clarity. Check out them El Rayos on youtube.

It does not matter what you get next because there will be more " I guarantee it " I once foolishly said I will never have an all PRS collection, I didn't how wrong I could be.
Once I think I am set something else comes along and each one has been special I even miss the couple I have sold to get others, even ones that I didn't think I would love -- I did
" why would I want a CU24 , I'm a 22 fret fat neck guy " well I found out that I am equally happy with any PRS neck and scale length and I am happy to have them all ;)
In fact there are several killer PRSi on the other sites that are calling me as I type here -- and the problem is the support group for this condition are the bunch of enablers on these forums
Happy Hunting can't wait to see what you end up with !!!!!! ( PS and don't start looking at there amps :) )

There are too many options to choose from for a second axe, all of which will invariably lead you to identify a third. However, since your DGT is a mahogany body/neck, thick-bodied and trem-loaded tone machine, you might consider a new CE24 for the maple neck/bolt-on attack upgrade, or go the way of the hollowbody...or rock an SC245/P245SH...OR....

Easy.... 513

+1 here
but I'm going the opposite way Robben I'll be hunting down a nice DGT
since I already have the 513, IMHO they complement each other very well
oh, and as far as breaking a string? I use my trem in not so subtle way and i didn't break
a string in at least a year so go ahead and dive away :D
