My conundrum....

I have a massive hardon to buy a PRS solidbody, and I'm tormented day and night. The problem is- I've been to all five of my local Guitar Centers, and they don't stock anything but SE's. I don't want an SE. I want a Custom 24. That means I will probably have to buy one from Sweetwater or some other internet store. Probably not a major problem, but I have never even played or touched a PRS guitar, and I have no idea what all of this "pattern" business is with regard to the neck. There's wide and fat and thin and regular and all kinds of subjective terms to describe the necks, and quite frankly I don't want to spend $3000 on a guitar sight unseen and have the neck wind up feeling wrong. What can I do to get a better idea of which neck shape I want when all there is are a bunch of vague adjectives to describe them? Has anybody else had this problem?

The Se neck shapes are very close to the core line necks so try them out at the local guitar stores. Then you will at least have some idea of the neck shapes.

If there are 5 GC locations near you there is a PRS dealer near you someplace where are you located ?

GC has a pretty forgiving return policy so you could order it and return it if it isn't right.

I suggest you tuck that sh!t before going into GC... You don't want to give away your excitement when negotiating price.

Has anybody else had this problem?

Yes I had that problem my first time out. PRS had changed to the Pattern designs when I was ready to pull the trigger and my experience was with the pre-pattern designs. JFB's link is probably the best thing to check out. But if it helps... The pattern thin is just that, a thin neck. I find it resembles the Ibanez Wizard style necks, which are thin. The pattern regular, to me anyways, is a more traditional common style electric neck and very comfortable, and one I happen to like. The Pattern neck (also known as the Pattern wide fat) is a modified version of the old PRS wide fat neck. It is not bad at all, and I also like it alot. It was standard on my Modern Eagle and I love it. I find the change from the Pattern regular to the Pattern to not be a big deal when switching between the two. Hope I helped. Dont buy from GC if you can help it. A mom and pop dealer is worth the drive and they will work with you. Good Luck and we look forward to your NGD day and pics!!!
