Want to start the week off on a good foot and inn'a good mood? Join me for Motown Monday.

Motown was more than a record label, it practically ascended to the point of being its own musical genre. There's a good chance that any record you bought (or could buy now) with the Motown imprint on it has the highest odds of gettin' freaky and/or dancing than almost any other imprint.

The rules are the same as Slayer Sunday:
    1) Post any video, picture, or story about a Motown artist on Monday.

    2) That's it. Please try an' make sure it's from Motown or a Motown subsidiary (Tamla, Gordy, MoWest, etc..) All it takes is one more person to join in and commit to a day a week to fill the thread.

Let's start off with the first widely recognized "Motown" record off Berry Gordy's Tamla label (distributed by UA but, c'mon.. we just need a place to start):
Marv Johnson - Come to me

Do the Temptations count? This is an outstanding cover of this song, although it's not exactly an upbeat tune, I'll try to pick something more upbeat next week:

I grew up with Motown, used to see all the acts back in the day when they were in Detroit. My old high school and college bands played the classic Motown songs.

I'm no whiz on the instrument, but my bass teacher was one of Motown's top session players after James Jamerson passed away, and before Motown moved from Detroit to LA.

I'm still mad at Motown for leaving Detroit.

    Hear me out...

Now I know the birthday of a nation
Is a time when a country celebrates

Signed his name to free all men
Was a white man [Abraham Lincoln]

    We pledge allegiance
    All our lives
