Hi guys, my first post....I'm a newb, please go easy on me....

I have a 1996 McCarty which has (I think 🤔) phase 1 locking tuners that came with a very nice mother of pearl veneer. It is a lovely guitar and my favourite. I'm the second owner...the mother of pearl has come off on one or two of the buttons and I would either like to get them repaired or perhaps get a new set of buttons for the tuners and keep the old ones. I don't think I have seen another set like it but I'm sure someone will be able to put me straight as to if they were a normal thing or something a bit odd.....I definately want to keep the tuners with mother of pearl buttons as they look rather nice....It's a fabulous guitar, I think I'm in love.....😆

A 1996 McCarty would have shipped with the Kluson-style tuners that you find on a Les Paul, not locking tuners - unless it’s a McCarty Trem. My guess is if the guitar has a stop tail, neither the tuning machines nor the buttons are factory spec.

You can find MOP style tuning machine buttons lots of places, but you have to find buttons that fit the machines. StewMac are known for having a huge parts inventory.

Hi Laszlo
Thank you so much for your reply. It was a bit of a special this guitar, made apparently by Joe Naggs (have I spelt that correctly?)...do you think that the tuners came with the mother of pearl veneers from the tuner manufaturer (schaller?) or that they were added by the team at PS?....Yes, it has a tremolo....It is not a standard McCarty but rather a one off special.

Hard to know about the tuner buttons, but lots of custom stuff has been done by the PS team.

+1 Stewmac has the large and small pearl buttons for schaller 18 bucks for the set ... and it's spelled Knaggs .. .he's on his own and builds some awesome stuff , love mine

I switched the tuner buttons to small ivory ones on my DGT SE. I purchased them on Reverb.
