Modern Eagle V

I just picked up one too last weekend! Mine is also the opposite of what’s described here. I haven’t had a ton of time to play it yet but it sounds fantastic and like that there probably aren’t many that look like mine. It has a swamp ash back and ziricote fretboard with the stained flame maple in yellow tiger. The dealer told me likely this was a wood library 10 top and they probably messed up the original paint job so now it’s gold! I wonder if I could call PRS to ask them what the original top was going to be just cause I am curious.

That is one of the coolest MEV's I have seen! The goldie top, that neck, OMG that neck, and that azz!! Wow, hella congrats on thats!!!

There's solid finish wood library runs and honestly should be more of them. Wood library is about the wood combos used as a whole more than anything. If it was going to be another finish it could be marked in the pickup cavities.

Sweet guitar! Congrats

Hello everyone, I`m the owner of a beautiful MEV from 2024:

love how it plays and how it looks but I am having issues with the sound... it is very dark and lacking bite, for my taste of course.

So my ask to you guys, what should I do to increase that bite and give it a bit more of a rock tone? lower pick ups for more clarity maybe, specific set of strings, maybe change the tone capacitor? ideas?I`m a bit lost and this being by far my most expensive guitar, I`m a bit reluctant on making any aggressive changes.
Very strange that you experience this. I work in a musicstore in Belgium and the Modern Eagle is like one of the most clear and open sounding guitars that I’ve seen in our shop so far. What guitar(s) did you play most before getting this one?

A followup to my earlier post. I was running my MEV through a totally different setup this afternoon and the guitar sounded plenty bright and the lower midrange hash I described last time had turned into a solid woody knock that I really enjoyed through a moderately dirty tube amp.

This reminds me that the interplay of a particular amp and particular guitar can matter a lot. Also, there are two areas I've noticed that PRS quality has been less than superb in recent years. First is the nuts, second is the electronics assembly. If you're knowledgeable about soldering, or have a good tech, take a look in the control cavity, looking for loose or tenuous connections and cold solder joints. That can be a cause of less than ideal sound.

I got a MEV recently too. As the others have posted above, I find it a bright guitar and roll the tone back a bit to get it to where I like the tone. I play mine through Mesa Boogie Mark V 35. The biggest issue I have with mine s tuning stability with the bone nut. I'll hoping to have the nut replaced with the regular synthetic back nut soon.

thanks everyone for all the suggestions.
I fixed the issue (mostly at least) and it was something very unexpected.

the neck relief reset I did, it is much straighter now, and lowering bridge carts - the sound changed drastically!
Physically speaking it should have had very similar results than increasing the height of the pick ups, which I tried many times before, but it definitely wasn't.

the guitar still is my most "rounder" sounding Humbucker guitar, but to my experience that is a PRS thing. It is now, brighter, clearer and the big chords are not muffled. It is not a strong vintage bite sounding guitar, but that is not what I bought it for, it was just too much before. Pretty sure I`m quite happy now, need to play it on a couple gigs before confirming 100%.

Congrats on your new guitar! I have had mine for 2.5 years. Good luck on your quest for the tone that you are looking for.
Lots of good suggestions above. I am thankful that Ihave never had to tinker with mine. Great sinlge coil and humbucker sounds right out of the case!
