Can someone with some PRS experience explain the differences between these two guitars? From my understanding, the Modern Eagle V Limited is more versatile and McCarty 594 is more a les paul type of PRS? They are both Private Stock models, will either of them hold their value better? Any other insights?

Unless you are talking about a run of McCarty 594's I don't know about, that model is not a private stock. It's a core.

The Modern Eagle has PRS TCI Treble and Bass Pickups, Narrow PRS Single-Coil Middle Pickup, while the 594 has the Metal X pickups.

It's definitely a Private Stock 594. It must have been a one off for the dealer.

The PRS McCarty started out only available as a Private Stock model before they started making a Core line version of that model. You can still get a 594 as a Private Stock upon request. Hope that helps.

Should this be moved to the Electric forum? It was my first post and I think I put it in the wrong place.

I would imagine the ME V would hold value a little better.... but either way there’s a gap the size of a hot tub between new and used prices. So a guitar like that holding its value would be somewhere near the bottom of the list of reasons to choose one over the other IMO.

Actually, there was no Private Stock in 1994. There was a numbered initial Core run, but PS didn’t start until 1996 or so.

Did I misunderstand something?
Oh, I think I see what happened.
When I spoke of the McCarty 594 being introduced originally as a Private Stock model, I neglected to type the three characters 5, 9 & 4 before typing the word McCarty.
It also seems that the typo could not be clearly identified by the context either; the context which was heavily laden with those characters 594 repeated over and over as that is what we were talking about.
So, yes, I clearly failed to insert "594" in one of the places where it should have gone.
My apologies for the confusion.
I was speaking of the McCarty 594 model which was originally introduced as a Private Stock model and then later offered as a Core production line model.
I don't know anything about Private Stock line or when it was first brought into existence. That is very interesting about the 1994 bit. Off topic but interesting.
Sorry again for the confusion. I'll try to type more carefully in the future and better proofread my posts so that everyone can follow what I say.

That’s more like it.
