Hello,

I'm a lucky owner of a PRS Custom 22 2013 and I need a specific info about mixing pickups with 5-way blade.
The 57/08 in the bridge is too vintage for me, so I think to replace it with a 59/09 that is hotter.

If I mix:

PRS 59/09 for the treble

PRS 57/08 for the neck

Can I obtain a better result (playing hard rock and blues styles) than a pair of 59/09 pickups?

The cleans are better in the 2 and 4 positions of the switch? Is quack/funky better with a 59/09 in the neck?
Which is the best pickup for the neck to play solos?

I want to have the maximun versatility.

I'm trying to find info about this in Internet, but I can't find nothing!!! :-(

Thanks in advance

Alberto

57/08 is very bluesy, warm and vintage-sounding in the neck position; 59/09 is similar - a bit more modern, but still very very versatile. I have a Tremonti Custom SE ltd edition with EMG combo; I don't like them that much, and for replacing them I just bought a 59/09 treble second hand, and I was looking for a 59/09 bass or a 57/08 bass, too. Cannot find anyone for a cheap price, so I decided to go with a DiMarzio Paf 36th that I already own, great Q/P and a kind of "inbetween" of 57 and 59.
If you are looking for great clean tones, take a listen to this demo of the 59/09 set. Position 1, 2 and 4 are simply fantastic, IMHO. Pos. 5 sounds great too, but I would prefeer it for crunch and high-gain sounds. I don't like that much pos. 3, if I would buy a 5-way blade PRS, I think I would rewire it to set pos. 3 as neck parallel.

I own a 2021 Bernie Marsden and feel as though the lows and highs are muddy and the highs dont ring clear and crisp as I'd prefer Same question here but reversing the two I.E. 59 in the bass pickup and the 57 in the neck position, would that be an acceptable blend? I would like a brighter tone in the lows but and a more mellow cleaner tone in the highs suggestions on pickups plz?

Neck and Bass are the same position.

5909 bridge/treble with 5708 neck/bass combo is arguably the best PRS combo. Maybe edged out with a 5815LT in the neck with either the 5708 or 5909 in the bridge.

I have a 57/08 (covered) neck and 59/09 (uncovered) bridge PS combo in the works and I think it's by far the best combo out there. To answer your question, however: I don't think you'll get exactly what you're looking for with this reverse-combo. 59/09 in the neck is a little more modern sounding and might feel like it overpowers the more classic 57/08 in the bridge. I feel this way about the 490r/490t pickup combo in the standard SG (not to compare 490's in overall quality to PRS's fantastic pups) and I think it's the reason why a lot of people swap out the pickups on what is otherwise a fantastically priced quality instrument. Nothing wrong with the pickups individually, but together they sound meh. I'm swapping out mine with Haussel's, but that's definitely not the tone you're going for.

I agree with @SinSir in recommending the 58/15LT pickups as a good option. I have a pair in my 594 and they're so crisp and perfectly balanced, you might not feel the need to pair them with anything else. On the other hand, a 58/15LT in the neck and 57/08 in the bridge sounds like a killer combination!

Yeah I'm looked back on this post I made this morning half asleep and am aware of the egregious error on neck and bridge position, but you all have given me some real food for thought and will dive deeper into the sounds before I finalize and purchase Thanks a ton.

Cheers!
