Hello,

I'm a lucky owner of a PRS Custom 22 2013 and I need a specific info about mixing pickups with 5-way blade.
The 57/08 in the bridge is too vintage for me, so I think to replace it with a 59/09 that is hotter.

If I mix:

PRS 59/09 for the treble

PRS 57/08 for the neck

Can I obtain a better result (playing hard rock and blues styles) than a pair of 59/09 pickups?

The cleans are better in the 2 and 4 positions of the switch? Is quack/funky better with a 59/09 in the neck?
Which is the best pickup for the neck to play solos?

I want to have the maximun versatility.

I'm trying obtain info about this in Internet, but I can't find nothing!!! :-(

Thanks in advance

Alberto

I've seen quite a few 5909 bridge/5708 neck guitars, seems to be a popular combination. I would do it but that's me. I happen to love the 5708 neck pickup with the volume rolled back just a little. I have guitars with 5909s and 5708s and I will leave them as is but if I was going to order a guitar I might do the combo in question.

You could also play with pickup height. Since you're going to change it anyway you could move it a little closer to the strings. You will get a little hotter tone but you will lose the magic that happens when they are set correctly.

One last thing, make sure you get a 5909 that's compatable with 5 way blade. I'm not sure how many variations there are but just sayin.

Good luck!

I have the aforementioned combo, with a 59/09 at the bridge and 57/08 at the neck. Mine is a 3 way toggle, though. I HIGHLY recommend this combo. I cannot imagine you would be disappointed!

It's a great combo, often done in SC's. Would be a great combo. As stated, just be sure to get pickups that are compatible with the blade switch.

I loved the 58/59 combo so much I had a PS Singlecut made with it...works great for me.

I have just ordered a 59/09 :-)
I'm curious about the parallel positions...

I've got good results also with the JB/Jazz set (my current combo in my CU22).
I modified the connections and rewired the electronics.
The JB gives a great punch but is not the best in personality, I think is better for high gain sounds (perhaps it beats the HFS listening some youtube videos).
The cleans in the parallel positions are sweet.

I have high expectations about the 59/09 & 57/08 combo.
The 59/09 costs about $180, and the 57/08 is not sold without a guitar.
After the changes I want the guitar to be able to make me coffee too!

I have this same combo in my PS DC245 with a 3way toggle.
