Mira X

Looking forward to seeing it. All of the obeache X models I've tried have been great. Warm and woody.

I'd take one over a EC Strat any day if the EC came cheap.

And here it is!

It is less orange than it looks in the pic.

It is really light but fit and finish is as good as you would expect. First brief impression is that it has an interesting vintage look and feel, maybe a bit Melody Maker-ish. A fair bit of bite to the pickups but no lack of depth. It feels like it has '10s on it so I'll stick on a fresh set of '9s and do a light set up to my taste. Now I do have a 'spare' set of Dragon IIs, I wonder how they would sound in it?

OK, fresh set of '9s and a fiddle later and everything improves. It came out of the factory with '10s according to the tag but because the guitar is so light I think they overwhelmed it. I also backed the pickups off quite a ways as it seems sensitive to the height and definitely has a sweet spot for them that took a bit of dialing in. Now it sings. Because of the lack of weight (it is quite a shock when you first pick it up) in its body and neck it actually feels and sounds more like a semi, 335 kind of thing, somehow got a bit of 'air' and jangle. I certainly wouldn't describe it as dead, but naturally it has a significantly different tone to a denser mahogany bodied guitar. Now I understand it a bit better I really like it. The only thing I don't like are the tuners. For someone used to Schallers and Spertzels they just aren't natural! The whole string tie thing was like rocket science initially and I broke a G string (NO, NOT WHAT YOU ARE THINKING) and got two cuts as part of the learning process. Can I put a set of Phase IIIs on there, please!

not sure if they're drop right in, but the string tie thing isn't really that necessary to stress over, here's a simpler one that doesn't need any complicated "tying" skills to get it done.

since the Mira isn't a vibrato-equipped guitar, i guess the locking tuners are not really that necessary, but it's still up to you :dontknow:

 If you did, it was mine a short time ago. I traded it in along with a couple of other guitars for a Hollowbody II. I hope you enjoy it. The Mira X is a really under-appreciated guitar. It weighs next to nothing and sounds great - just like you say, it has a very hollow kind of feel and tone. And sepia burst is a great finish. I also thought the pau ferro fingerboard was every bit as good as any fingerboard wood in terms of look and texture.

Well that's both cool and slightly spooky! Was the Cappuccino CE yours as well? I have to thank you for taking good care of it, it's in great condition. Like I said (and obviously I hope you weren't offended) I prefer the sound of it with '9s and for me is better with the pickups lowered a bit. It makes a great addition to my CE22. Nice to 'connect' with you.

They don't come up that often and when you said you'd just bought one from a store in England, it seemed a good guess that it was mine.

Yes, the CE was mine as well. I didn't own it for very long. I had the Mira X for a couple of years though. I don't gig and if I'm not playing my guitars, they go straight into their cases so the few marks that there are, were there when I got it.

I'm not offended. I prefer 10s, 11s and even 12s but that's just me.

It's cool to know where it ended up. Play it and enjoy it!
