I scored a squabin 5909 bridge off of ebay and decided to put it in my McCarty today. So far I would say it sounds really good but with me, I could play it at home all day long and never know for sure until gig time. Any changes to my rig or guitars can't be judged until I gig with it.

The squabin looks good in there and sounds even better so I may just look for a squabin 5909 neck and put it in too. Gotta gig first though!

Hard to know if what I like works with someone else's taste, but I prefer the 5x/0x pickups to anything else I've found on the market, and I'd be surprised if you didn't like the pickup with your McCarty.

Yes I would agree the 5x/xx pickups are very nice. My bass player thinks I'm stupid for spending the extra cash on prs pickups but I have 5909s and I love them. I wish prs would make 57/08 & 53/10 available to the public at a reasonable price. Why sell 59/09s but not the others.?

I'm the same way, gotta hear it with the band before I know for sure how it really sounds.

I wish 59/09s had been widely available back when I owned a McCarty. With that guitar it was always a challenge finding the right pickup to both harness its beautiful fatness AND cut through the band mix at the same time. I must have tried 8 or 9 sets of pickups in that guitar but always went back to the McCarty bridge pickup. A 59/09 might have been the correct answer.

I just scored a set of round bobbin 59/09s on ebay. I'm not sure what I'm going to do with them. It was totally an impulse purchase.

I like the McCarty pickups but they seem to get lost in the mix in live situations. So far the 5909 sounds great and I just might replace the neck with one too.

Sadly my 59/09s seem to have been lost by USPS. Tracking info shows they left Des Moines on the 10th, were supposed to be delivered the 11th... but never made it to Phoenix.
