Hey guys, just a question about the finish on my MEQ. Is it normal to be able to feel the join from where the maple top meets the mahogany body? I can only slightly feel it but i though it would completely smooth to run my finger over. I bought the guitar new from Jelyfinger guitars about 2 years ago and have wondered about it ever since. I compared it with my HBII and i could not feel the join at all, like it was under the finish.
here are the are some pics of the area in particular.

Thanks

Maybe one piece of wood shrunk a little. Maybe whoever sanded the guitar didn't quite get it perfect. Hard to say.

thanks for the responses guys, its no big deal, just wondered if it was normal.JLD i swapped them out for 59/09s to suit the style of music i play, i was going to keep them but they end up helping me fund a CE22 i picked up recently.

Well to start, in that first picture that line above the join looks a bit suspect. I don't know if its the picture angle or what but it being slighlty above the join is strange. Aside from what Les said the only thing I can think of is that maybe the finish sunk slightly around the lamination area. The v12 finish is very thin and it can sink, but it's hard to say for sure. I can actually feel a slight join bump on the treble horn on my DGT which was finished in nitro.

Didn't these utilize a unique finishing process? Perhaps that's why it's different?

I believe that was for the neck. The neck on the MEQ I previously owned (also same for others I've tried) had a slight waxy feeling, as opposed to the more raw feeling of the other rosewood necked PRSi.

Probably a bad finishing job. A local store here had a HBII that had a seam that you could touch on the top and they still wanted $3600+. Paul was there, so I didn't make a big deal as I didn't want to cause any embarrassment to anyone.
