So I finally contacted the PTC about my amp, which is a very special amp. It's one of only 12, and it had some sort of special modifications.

Apparently, it has an HXDA switch. Any idea what that would be? It was my understanding that there were multiple switches on an HXDA, that changed the HX to a DA.

Anyway, my MDT has two switches, a brightness switch on the front, and a gain boost switch on the back. Are either of these normal on a regular MDT?

Is it the one in your avatar? 4x10 wrapped in paisley?
I visited the construction with Paul & Doug. Very cool amp. I have one at home.
I forget the details of the extra switch on the back other than it makes the amp more awesome. Similar idea to the HXDA switching, but only impacts one stage of the amp rather than the 3 on the actual HXDA is my best recollection from 5 years ago. Brent Moss had them built.

I forgot you were in the thick of that build, Pete. My apologies!

Doug Sewell is (in)famous for putting secret switches in amps. Some are labeled, some aren't, so a bit of intrigue and mystery goes with those amps if new owners don't have the full story. IIRC, Pete has one, I have one and numerous others exist out there. I used to think it was exclusive to CAD amps, but some special-order builds have them, too.

So, are your bright and gain switches considered the HXDA mod or is there another switch labeled HXDA?

No, there's nothing labeled "HXDA" -- the response from Matt/PRS/PTC was the first indication that there was anything HXDA about it. I suspected it was something like that. Thanks for the quick response.

Aye, that's the one. Here is the original listing (don't look at the price, you will think me criminal) with more pictures.

Oh, and yes, it is indeed, a very cool amp. Easily my favourite. I really need to learn to dial it in. I have it dialed in for one tone, but I basically leave it like that.

I have absolutely no idea what the switch could be, or what it does, but dang, it sounds like you have an AWESOME amp. ;)

It does not suck. I feel bad for the rest of y'all. Well, except maybe the other 11...

Do not feel badly.

Between the HXDA and the DG30, I can cover a lot of musical territory.

And for what those don't do, there's always the Lone Star 100, though it's definitely not as bright a light in my musical world, I still like it.
