Does anyone own both? Has anyone played both? Interested in the difference in the various tones of a traditional (current) McCarty and the McCarty 594 since the P/Ups are differenct. Also interested in your insights to the the scale length and neck shape differences. It seems like most 594s are back-ordered, so I imagine it will be a while before any guitar store has both a traditional McCarty and the 594 available to comparison.
Thanks!

I can't compare them yet, though I have a new McCarty, and a 594 on order. However, the McCarty video on the PRS site sounds just like my McCarty, and I'd bet for that reason that the 594 video sounds very much like the 594.

You've probably already heard both videos, but if not, that'd be a good place to begin, because the two guitars do sound different in the videos.

I do have a McCarty Singlecut, a PS version of the Singlecut, with low turn 57/08 pickups, the flatter frets, the bone nut, and the two piece bridge that the 594 has. These things all make a noticeable difference in the tone of the guitar, and it does sound different from an SC245 in much the same way that the 594 sounds different in the video from the McCarty.

In other words, there's much more of a vintage LP sound.

And the 594 has the 4 knob layout that lets you blend the pickups, including their relative volumes and tones. So there's a world of exploration to be had that the McCarty can't do.

OTOH, the McCarty is a fantastic workhorse of a guitar, and I love mine.

I've owned a lot of McCarty's. The only one I own right now is the 594. I like it better.

Thanks! Can you describe the feel of the new neck shape? Does it feel much different from the traditional "Patter" or "Wide Fat?" What do you like/dislike about it?

My mccarty sounds open-musical-twangy. Pattern neck feels ok for me, not too fat not too thin. It's some kind of Swiss Army knife guitar. It covers from clear and smooth tones to metal without missing anything.
The 594s I've tried sounded fat-musical. Pattern vintage feels fatter than pattern. I couldn't feel that "asymmetricality" but I feel It in the Gibson 59s neck range. Its sound is more LP oriented, perfect for blues, rock and that kind of creamy styles. But will cover any style for sure!

OMG! I've owned my core 594 for almost a week now, almost fell over playing it for the first time in the store (Guitar Shop) and gigged with it last Sat! It totally delivers the goods, my best pal spent the next morning scouring online looking for one!

At the moment I own 4 McCartys.... A Barazilian Limited, a Korina One Off ( has scalloped nut, Santana and Dragon II pickups, no push-pull), a Hollowbody and a 2016.... They all have a sound of there own. ALL GOOD! The Brazilian and 2016 have very usable, very lovely split tones. I have a 594 on order. Guess what I'm saying is, you can't go wrong with a McCarty.
