In my on going search for McCarty guitars to buy a question popped into my head, and i have not been able to find an answer to this anywhere. Back in the day they made a McCarty, and a McCarty standard model. The only difference between the two, i believe, was that the McCarty Standard was all mahogany, no Maple top. BUT, was the body thickness the same between the two? Was the standard model a solid chunk of mahogany or was it a mahogany body with a mahogany top? Curious if anyone knows the answer to this.

you might have to contact PRS Customer service for that answer. It's been a good long while since the McCarty Standard was available and in production.

Truthfully, my hope was that someone here might own both and be able to tell me, but contacting PRS directly is most likely my best bet.
I searched around a little bit for an answer for you but that particular spec was never mentioned in any PRS Forum or any PRS posted stuff I saw. I think the horses mouth will have what you're looking for. On the surface it sounds like a perfectly reasonable question, but looks to be difficult to find. Good Hunting.

Yeah i thought for sure it would be an easy find too, but... It does say in the model history that it is solid mahogany, but all it says is similar specs to the McCarty. Really curious about the thickness. If it is missing that thickness of the top, or if they cut the body a bit thinker so they can carve a top into the mahogany.

For what it is worth, I don’t have a McStandard anymore, but as I recall a great many of the earlier ones (pre-2000s) were a single hunk of wood. Not even 2-piece bodies. Mine were both that way for sure.

But mine also had solid indian rosewood necks and p-90s. And at the time, that was not something that was officially offered, and the word at the tome was only 26 slipped out of the factory that way because some rather smart dealers ordered that combo of specs before the kibosh was put on it by PRS.

That was lifted a few years later, and a couple more officially allowed batches were produced, before ultimately being dropped again.

My 07 McKorina is a totally beautiful 2 piece body. Matched Side/Side not top/bottom. I’ve seen quite a few that are 3 piece, and even a couple 1 piece ones before.

I am uncertain how the mahogany McStandard is produced today though, or if it changed over time. Production methods have modified over the years after all.

Well I'll leave this here incase anyone else ever searches the topic. According to Bindu at prs, the McCarty standard is one piece in the sense that it does not have a separate mahogany top. And it is the same thickness as the McCarty with maple top. Hope this helps someone down the road.

Here is a link to a photo of a Mahogany McCarty Standard. I was able to enlarge it enough to see that it did not have the Maple "binding" showing but it is the same body carve, which tells me anyway, that the mahogany body is thicker to accommodate that same body carve as a McCarty with a maple cap.
Hope that helps.
Man that one would have been a good score if i would have stumbled across it 9 years ago lol !!!
Thanks for doing some research for me! Appreciated!

Same thickness and dimensions. One piece. I have 2. Here’s one of them without paint. Should’ve left it that way but I had plans.
