Mccarty singlecut vs SC245

If you are referring to the PS version of the McCarty Singlecut there are a few things:

Body thickness - McSC is slightly thicker
Finish - Nitro vs. V12 on the SC245
Headstock - Santana w. Maple veneer vs. regular on the SC245
Nut - Bone nut on the McSC
Pickups - 5708s on the McSC
Inlays - Mammoth Ivory on the McSC
Binding - Curly Maple on the McSC
Fretboard - Madagascar Rosewood on the McSC

Also, I've seen a few out in the wild with slightly different specs or some that were dealer speced and not part of the "standard" issued or prototypes.

Early run(s) were the maple headstock veneer and "modified 57/08s", but the more recent spec for a PS McSC is now a rosewood headstock veneer and 58/15s. The PS McSC also doesn't have the tummy cut, has ivoroid tuner keys, and the control layout is like a Les Paul (neck top, bridge bottom -- instead of neck "left", bridge "right", if you know what I mean). It also has the thinnest nitro finish I've ever seen. In a very good way. FWIW!

Thanks for the replies everyone. I am curious to try out the PS version of McSC... I want to know how it compares to a Gibson R9 for example... From quality control and playability standpoint, I am 100% certain that the PS PRS will blow Gibson out of the water but sound wise... would they be very similar?

I've posted clips of my McCarty Singlecut a zillion times already, just do a search on the forum and you'll hear what you need to hear.

BTW all McCarty SCs were built by the PS team.

What is the difference between the modified 57/08's and the 58/15's?

The 57/08s on the McCarty SC are actually specially wound versions, lower output, faster treble roll off, more vintage sound. The 58/15s are a covered version of the 85/15s and as I have the 85/15s in a CU24, I can say they sound very different. However, I haven't played them in an SC.

I think MAPete's latest MSC has the 58/15s. Maybe he can chime in.
