I'm a little confused...

PRS lists McCarty LT, only.
Sweetwater lists 85/15, 58/15, McCarty LT.
No ryhme or reason as to which ones get which; regular top, 10-top, limited edition, finish...

Is this a thing?
If so, which pickups would you choose in a McCarty and why?

McCarty's have come with: OG McCarty pickups, 57/08's, 58/15's, 58/15 LT's and McCarty LT pickups, which are the latest and greatest. You don't get to choose which set you want.

I have had a few McCarty's over the years; my favorite being an Artist package model with 58/15's in it. McCarty's are awesome guitars any way they are equipped though!

So, you're saying the Sweetwater specs and descriptions are out-of-date?

Did your Artist have the TCI tuned 58/15 LT pickups? Thats the description they are giving...
I thought TCI was a more recent thing.

2024 McCarty currently ship with McCLT from PRS. Its been thay way for a minute. What the dealer has is the dealers stock. Easy to tell, they are etched on the covers.

8515 was never a thing in McC. But there have been several pickups offered in progression thorough the years. "TCI" was standard on all core starting 2020.

What is your preferred pickups in a McCarty? Need not be any of the aforementioned...

I haven't found a McCLT set in the wild yet, only online. Can't really comment on those with real world experience. The 5815LT neck is my fav, but the bridge isn't for me. The middle position is fantastic. 5708 is my favorite set. Personally I like to mix the 5815LT neck with a 5708 or 5909 in the bridge.

The absolutely best sounding and playing McC I've ever put my hands on is the 30th Vine with 5815 non LT. It's a guitar that still haunts me today for not snagging when I had the chance.

Thanks for the tip on the etchings.
They all appear to be McCarty LT.

My Artist package is a 2015 and has the regular, higher output 58/15 pickups. Regular 58/15's are in the same camp as the 57/08's, just a bit more controlled and tame whereas the 57/08's have a bit more traditional PAF kerrang and brightness. The 58/15 LT's are also amazing. Yes, you give up some output and thickness to the regular 58/15's, but they are super clear and have a great, percussive and woody attack.

I would be happy with any of those pickups in a McCarty. I liked....but didn't love the OG McCarty pickups. Haven't tried the new McCarty LT pickups, but my bet is they are alot like the 58/15 LT.

I got the Railhammer Hyper Vintage set when Joe Naylor first introduced them (before there were covers available). They've been a great set of pickups for the McCarty. Wonderful, authoritative, tight lows that can deftly cut through a dense live band mix and avoid a fight with the Keys and Bass player and the top-end is sweet and very P90'ish. Remarkably articulate across the sonic pallette, these aren't going anywhere, they've found a great home/match with the McCarty.

Can you post a back or rear quarter photo? Gold-tops with a natural back make it move.

I tried but it wouldn't take the jpeg I created. It's just a plain, clear finished mahogany back of a McCarty from 2006.
