Mccarty pickup advice...

Hi,
I'm new here and there may be other post on this subject that I've not read yet. But the neck pickup on my 2006 Mcarty has a nice warm, fat full tone that I LOVE, but as I've heard it described before, the pickup is too "polite" and does not have the aggressive gene that will allow it to cut through the way I need it to. Is there a pickup that's close to the Mccarty pickup tone but has the extra attitude to it, to make the guitar growl with attitude when my volume is on 10 and cur through the mix? This is only in reference to the neck position only.
Disclaimer: I struggle to find tve words to accurately describe what I'm looking for, so please excuse my description of what I'm looking for if I'm not making any sense.
Pearly gates? Jazz sh2? Another pre model pickup?
I play blues and jazz guitar.

Thanks in advance for your help.

Of the older pickups, I like the #7's. Newer PRS pickups I like the 57/08's. Even newer than that, I like the 58/15LT pickups which are factory installed into the new McCarty 594 models.

I have a Les Paul Custom and want to buy a McCarty 594.I had one in my studio for two weeks to try out and compare to my Les Paul. My Les Paul has a little extra attack and balls that the PRS lacks. But becsuse of its lower mid thickness, many times i dont want that sound. The McCarty 594 has a more balenced sound that i prefer on clean to mid level attack.

My point is if you get a more ballsy pickup, your going to lose something speical that you love about it's tone now. Since you said you love the tone of the pickup, i would just save your money for another guitar that will give you the extra punch when you want it.

Ever hear Santana wail on a PRS? The Custom 24 or their SE version would be my recommendation.

That makes a lot of sense. I guess I could add a boost pedal to it as well, that should give me a little more attitude.

+1 for the #7 neck pickup. I've not tried the USA, but I have a couple guitars with the S2 version, and they do exactly what you're describing - more mid cut and not muddy in the lows. I find some neck pickups have a hollow, flutey thing going on, and I don't like that, the #7 is the cure.

Forgive my ignorance, but what do you mean by #7s?
Paul went through a period of pickup exploration where they just numbered the pickups. The #6's and #7's made it into production. Some of the other numbers were specialty pickups that were made mostly for his friends. I've seen #10's for sale but don't know what they are like.

The #7's went into the singlecut guitars from 2000 to about 2007. The #7 neck pickup is a vintage style pup much like the McCarty but a little more punch. I don't know if you will hear enough difference to make the install worth it. If you want a distinct difference, the 59/09's will be markedly more aggressive and still vintage flavored.

Ok, I'll check these out too. I've never heard of tgwm before but I'll see what I can find. Thanks!
