What are the differences between these 2 guitar models?

Pickup differences depend on model year.McCarty came with McCarty pickups till 2008 then had 5708s. McCarty body is thicker headstock is thinner I think they all came with wide fat neck. Cu22 first had drag 1s then drag 2s then at some point they came with several variations. McCarty had toggle cu22 could have toggle or rotary then blade.

I'm sure I'm missing some details

the main difference is the McCarty body is 1/8" thick. other than that, pickups, controls, neck options, and it's easier to pronounce which version of McCarty you have: McRegular, McTrem, McRosie, McSoapy, McShootout, etc.

McCarty also has a slightly increased headstock angle and they used to have Kluson vintage type tuners.

They almost always have the stoptail, but there is a rare bird known as the McCarty Trem with the PRS vibrato and locking tuners.

McCarty was always wide fat, while the CU22 was wide fat or wide thin.

Ok, the body thickness was the one I was looking for. I couldn't think of it. I thought maybe it was the heel or something. Are McTrems hard to find? I'm looking for a beater to get re-finished. Thanks!

McTrems are hard to find. You could find a DGT which is close to a McCarty with trem (and signature pickups).
