McCarty 594 Scale Length Confirmation

I was being, as I’m sure you know, a bit facetious there… but it’s an unusual name. Was there a family tie to it, or just something you and the wife favored?

We had a friend whose first name was Reed, and we kinda liked it. We were stumped for a first name. One day, we were watching Michigan football, and Jamie Morris was the star running back. One of us said, "Jamie...that's a great name."

It stuck. Naming human beings is kind of a haphazard thing for us.

I wasn't convinced by my measurements so I printed out a 24+19/32" scale fretboard template (https://www.ekips.org/tools/guitar/fretfind2d/).

It didn't match.

I thought my printer was off, maybe it wasn't calibrated correctly, so I used my caliper (recently bought one for my own build) to see whether or not the fret spacing on my template was off. It wasn't.

I then printed a 24.5" scale template, caliper matched fret spacing again. I aligned it with my fretboard and lo and behold, it matched.

I correct myself, the 594 scale length is actually 24.5".

I think personally since Paul has called this guitar McCarty 594 and numerous interviews stated the Gibson scale length of guitars produced at that time under McCarty, I'll stick with Paul's stated scale length of 24.594

If somebody else could get measurements in and explain how they got it that would be dope.

Gonna order a trussrod cover that just says "McCarty 5".

On a more serious note though isn't it kind of ironic that Paul was the one who said Gibson's scale length isn't 24.75" (while marketing the 594)? Like come on bro.
My old early 60 Les Paul burst measured 24.5” scale length….

Dweezil and Moon Unit would say that you aren't the only ones.

I knew two brothers several years ago whose parents had given them a middle names of Doomsday and Armegeddon!

At least they were middles names!

And a wee boy whose parents had named him Merlin Turtle!
